Point, click, clink with these 5 virtual Paso Robles Wine ideas

Better bookmark this page immediately: these Paso Robles wine ideas are virtually delicious!

As the second wave of Covid-19 hits California, we’re all looking to stay inside as much as possible. Although plenty of Paso Robles tasting rooms and eateries offer safe outdoor, curbside and to-go food and wine experiences, we know many of our readers—especially the immune compromised—are sitting tight for the time being (we feel for you).

Let’s make one thing crystal clear: “Hunkering down” does not have to mean rummaging through whatever wine you’ve got lingering around from last holiday. Better to let those aging bottles rest and set your sights on fresh, exciting summer flavors. Now is the best time to really live it up and enjoy the incredible varietals this dynamic wine region has to offer. Simply point, click and clink!

1. Crack into a good one

Meet your new backyard BBQ BFF. That’s right: kick back on the front porch with an outstanding can of wine and a pair of tongs. Yes we said can! Wines of the West, home to several stellar Paso Robles wine labels, is your go-to for grab-and-go goodness. Whether you crack into Alloy’s rich sangiovese or go for a light and bright gruner veltliner, you’ll be ready for an afternoon of unfussy fun in the sun. Oh and yes, if you’re wondering: they do carry 12-packs!

How good it is: Get 1¢ shipping when you purchase either 3+ 12 packs of wine or 12 bottles or more from Wines of the West. Learn more here. Deals like this make even the grumpiest among us feel good-natured. Why not drop a surprise delivery on your neighbor’s porch? Hey, you can still hang through the backyard fence!

2. Get into a little trouble

Unleash your rebellious side and see where it takes you. You may not be ready to venture into Paso Robles’ way cool Tin City at the moment, but you can totally stock up on unique finds from the comfort of your own living room. With an array of defiant wines to entice even those most jaded wine drinker, Anarchy Wine Co. is all about delivering a truly wicked experience. The winery’s 2017 Auspicious Omen is a seductive syrah packed with spice and black pepper personality. Think you can handle it?

Rock out: Seeking some stimulating wine education to go with that zesty red? Check out Anarchy Wine Company’s new virtual tasting packages. The winery is taking both groups and individuals—just give ’em a holler.

3. Self care and repeat

What tastes good, feels good. You’ve slathered on your DIY honey face mask and you’ve just put on a record from your favorite local band. Now, reach for a equally crafty bottle of wine (to sip on while you cook those local CSA box veggies). If you want to submerge your senses in a wine that’s handpicked, hand-sorted and—literally—handmade, look no further than Hayseed and Housdon, a favorite among cowboys and travelers alike. Each bottle is a singular representation of the terroir and vintage, so you can sink into an alternate reality for a little while. For a truly soothing, refreshing experience, go for the winery’s bright, bone dry rose, cleverly named “The 4:19 to Paso.” Seriously. You’ll want to hop on this train and take ride it all the way to bath time.

Spread the love: Check out the winery’s online shop and feel good knowing that 50% of all rose sales go to Paso Cares, a nonprofit that gives back to homeless individuals in need.

4. Luxury on a weeknight?

Why the heck not? Time has lost a bit of its meaning as of late, so why not treat your Tuesday like Saturday and your Saturday like Valentine’s Day? Give yourself—and your lover—a morale boost with a candle-lit dinner for two right here in your humble kitchen. Nothing will impress them more than your exquisite taste in wine: Pour Chateau Margene’s 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, a wealth of blackberry, caramel and vanilla sophistication. No one will be fighting over who’s doing the dishes tonight.

Virtual hug: Dating a special someone over Zoom or the dating apps? We get it—sparking a new romance can be difficult right now, to say the least. Share your feelings with fabulous and a gift card courtesy of Chateau Margene. One day, you’ll be sipping that bottle together!

5. Take a trip (kinda)

Snap out of it! We’re all pretty sick of seeing our own homes every day, all day. Tonight, take a trip off the beaten path, so to speak. A taste of something totally new and unexpected is sure to shake off those end-of-summer blues. A brilliant blend heavy in the cabernet franc department is sure to kick your tastebuds into high gear. Crafted to be “the heaviest, boldest and richest blend imaginable” (their words, not ours), Sculpterra Winery’s 2018 Winemaker Signature beckons only the most adventurous among us. Aged in Hungarian oak and New American Oak, this smoky, peppery and fruity fix is altogether “extra.”  These are so special that they are pickup only, no shipping. They still have to wax, sign, and number them, but they will be going on sale soon. Hurry and get on their waitlist! Only 200 bottles produced!

Wanderlust, solved: Go ahead, wander. A virtual tour of Sculpterra’s magical Winery and Sculpture Garden will do wonders for your weary mind.

5 Home Self-Care Activities Made Better with Paso Wine

Wine as self-care? Well, why the heck not? With all this talk of sheet masks, meditation mantras and coloring books created just for stressed out adults, we’re thinking about all the inventive ways Paso Robles wine can fit into our favorite wind-down activities. If you’re feeling more fatigued than ever these days, you’re not alone. Here’s 5 rejuvenating self care activities made all the better with the addition of Paso Robles Wine. We promise, you’ll be seeing the glass half full in no time!

1. Tie Dye and Chill with Dubost

No, tie dye’s not just for the hippies (or tots) anymore. Whether you’re a total flower child or a kid of the 90s, you’ll appreciate all the modern, chic tie dye applications available for at home fun. This upscale kit uses all natural turmeric powder to achieve swirls of groovy marigold. Whether you choose to makeover your plain white sheets—or that boring old t-shirt—you’ll find this craft as easy as it is transformative. Relax into a creative and carefree zone with a glass of Dubost 2017 Syrah. Aged for 18 months in 50% new oak, this beautiful blend consists of three different syrah lots grown in three different Paso Robles vineyards. It’s bold, velvety—and if you happen to spill a little on your project—just chalk it up to artistic expression.

2. Zoom through the Pages with Hoyt Family Vineyards

Take a look, it’s in a book! It’s been decades since we all enjoyed an episode of “Reading Rainbow,” but that doesn’t mean we should fall into a Netflix hole. The old fashioned act of reading—whether by e-reader or physical page—is all-encompassing, allowing our brains to take a much needed rest (and, perhaps, a riveting trip to a mysterious and exotic place). Need some accountability to help you crack a few extra tomes? Form a regular Zoom book group, allowing friends and family to take a much-needed trip into that fairytale world together. Of course, your summer reading list is incomplete without something stellar to sip on: Hoyt Family Vineyards’ Tasting in a Box is a stimulating mix of five choice wines spanning white to red. Enjoy the samples virtually alongside the guidance of a winery rep, or encourage your book club to grab their own tasters and compare and contrast your ideas via Zoom. Get ready for a lively discussion, to be sure!

3. Spa Day for One with Oso Libre

Expensive, store-bought beauty products are so 2019. As we all know, the new decade (for better or worse) is about cultivating ingenuity and resourcefulness amid the chaos of an uncertain world. Look around your pantry and be amazed! If you’ve got a jar of raw honey, a few overripe bananas or half an avocado, you’re well on your way to a glowing complexion. Take it from us: draw a bath, slap on a DIY mask and pour yourself a glass of oaky, buttery Oso Libre 2018 Vino d’Oro Chardonnay. Those newly forming fine lines and wrinkles will thank you.

4. Puzzle on! with Parrish Family Vineyard

If you haven’t puzzled in a while, let me catch you up: this is not an activity for timid wallflowers anymore! Engross your mind—and your pod—in a challenging puzzle awash in vivid color. There’s something so satisfying about finding that perfect puzzle piece to complete a detailed image, whether it be an elaborate jungle scene or a stylish still-life worthy of your wall. Completed your mission? A bottle of Parrish Family Vineyard 2018 Sauvignon Blanc is in order! Tart, bright and acid-driven, it has a way of pressing “refresh” on your brain (especially if when you’ve spent hours searching for a puzzle piece mistaken for a cat toy).

5. Journal it out with Peachy Canyon

You’ve probably heard by now: journaling is an incredible way to de-stress, calm the mind and preserve those precious memories you’re sure to forget (pus, did we mention it’s far cheaper than therapy?). Whether you choose a one-line-a-day journal or go for a blank book just aching for copious doodles and dreams, now is a great time to put pen to paper. After a particularly useful brain-dump, why not reward yourself with a celebratory glass of Peachy Canyon zinfandel? The winery’s jam-packed 2018 Especial Zinfandel is thoughtfully crafted and full of surprises (just like your life).

5 Best Summer Paso Robles Wine Pairings

Sunshine and surf, burgers and ketchup, pool floats and heart-shaped sunglasses—these quintessential summer pairings will never go out of style. Similarly, Paso Robles Wine Country honors its own cache of spectacular hot-weather duos each July. With endless blue skies, welcoming tasting rooms and more stellar summer sippers than you can shake a hot dog at, you’re sure to be made in the shade!

1. A chill grenache blanc and a grand sunset – Sextant Wines

The best things in life are free: Tart, lemony goodness, zesty grapefruit and dried apricots blossom in the glass while light notes of pineapple and melon linger on the tongue. Yes, this is summer as you imagined it: perfectly carefree, juicy and refreshing! Sextant Wines 2019 Estate Grenache Blanc has that uncanny ability to transport the weariest traveler into a pool of pure, Golden State vibes. When paired with a gorgeous sunset—best viewed at their Edna Valley tasting room with a killer cheese plate—you’ll swear you’ve entered a new dimension of relaxation entirely.

2. A unique rosé and an adventure off the beaten path – Rio Seco

Get lost! You know those fun-loving summer days that start one way and end in another? Chase that sense of spontaneity along a lesser-beaten path (we promise, you’ll be glad you took the chance). When you embark on a romp along Paso’s pastoral backroads, you’re sure to encounter cows, vines and a whole lot of warm hospitality. A dry, European style rose with hints of surprising cotton candy, Rio Seco Winery’s 2018 Syrah Rosé is as playful as it is perfect for outdoor sipping. Bet you didn’t see that one coming!

3. A funky-fresh white and a rockin’ playlist – Penman Springs

Not quite feeling yourself these days? That’s what Summer playlists were made for! Kick-start the weekend with a fresh-picked mix of feel-good jams from the likes of The Beach Boys and Stevie Wonder (seriously, have these guys ever steered you wrong?). Pair a jubilant backyard dance-off of one with an equally high-energy white. Penman Springs Vineyard’s 2018 “Dry Humor” Alsatian style wine is a blast in a glass: Savor the super creamy mouthfeel and fresh aromas highlighted by tangerine, green apple and a hint of peach. Trust us: you’ll be busting a move in no time.

4. Desert wine and a beach date – Cass Wines

Sweet and salty—that’s how we prefer our dates to be! Summer is the perfect time to rekindle the romance: just add one part dessert wine, one part sandy stroll. This 2018 Lake Harvest Roussanne from Cass Winery is bursting with sexy honeysuckle and meringue pie sumptuousness. Pack a light picnic and set your heart for the cool, coastal breeze (after all, Paso Robles is only a few miles from Highway 1 and the glittering blue Pacific). Whether you hunt for moonstones in Cambria or kick back on a towel in Cayucos, you’ll feel just like the lovebirds in Grease. Summer lovin’ happened so fast…

5. A bold red and a drive-in movie – JUSTIN

And now for our feature presentation: When it comes to bold Paso Robles reds, JUSTIN reigns supreme. Although you might not think of JUSTIN’s 2017 Right Angle—an intriguing blend of cabernet, petite verdot, petit sirah and malbec—as a traditional “summer wine,” just wait till the sun goes down at the locally-loved Sunset Drive-in. Located just a few miles south of the Cuesta Grade in San Luis Obispo, this iconic hangout offers up all the summer traditions you’ll remember from childhood: hot dogs, nachos and lots of opportunities to smooch your seat-mate. Cheers to nostalgia (and a long, lingering finish). Remember, the designated driver gets extra butter on their popcorn!

5 Paso Robles Wineries to Shake up Your Summer

Your summer vacation dreams may have wilted with the daisies, but you don’t have to cancel your rendezvous with thrilling flavor. In fact, Paso Robles Wine Country was founded on a sense of freedom, self-expression and pioneering spirit! From the very beginning, this dynamic growing region has produced bold blends and unique varietals that buck the status quo. If you really want to shake up your routine, we suggest putting down the scissors (bangs are not the way) and raising a glass.  Trust us. These 5 freewheeling Paso Robles wineries are sure to satisfy your quest for adventure.

1. Savor the obsession at Michael Gill Cellars

Feel the passion! Freedom of expression is not always about how many different kinds of wine you can make, but about the ability to focus, doggedly, on one singular obsession. In Paso Robles Wine Country, a handful of dedicated winemakers continue to harbor a one-varietal love affair that spans vintages. At Michael Gill Cellars, a single-minded approach to syrah has led to some of the finest expressions of the varietal in the region (and a slew of gold medals and awards, to boot). Not sure which to sample first? Truly, take your pick. Each syrah is more spectacular than the last.

2. Taste the terroir (and then some) with Lone Madrone

Go wild! With so many incredible vineyards in Paso Robles Wine Country, why would you ever want to stick to just one? At Lone Madrone, grapes are sourced from a handful of top vineyards located across the area (which means you’re free to taste the best of the entire region, all under one label). Sip Lone Madrone’s distinct and varied single varietals and blends for a true taste of Paso terroir. Thanks to a natural, hands-off approach to winemaking, you’re sure to taste the nuances of the land—minus the travel costs. Oh, and don’t forget the winery’s popular hard cider, an homage to the winemaker’s upbringing in Bristol, England. An award-winning winery that also makes killer cider? In Paso Robles, this is an everyday thing.

For mapping and directions to Lone Madrone click here

3. Ride into the Sunset with Rangeland Wines

Cowboys (and outlaws) wanted! The rugged essence of Paso Robles comes into full focus when you swirl the exceptional “field crafted” reds crafted by Rangeland Wines. Located just twelve miles from the ocean at 1,700 feet of elevation, the winery’s pastoral Adelaida Springs Ranch estate vineyard is surrounded by rolling oak woodlands, abundant wildlife and grazing livestock. Part ranch, part winery, the winemaking folks here care as much about the cabernet sauvignon in your glass as they do about the steak on your plate (and yes, you can pick up estate-raised grass-fed beef from the tasting room). Yeehaw! This is the wild west with wildly satisfying wine.

For mapping and directions to Rangeland click here

4. Splash into summer with Krobar Craft Distillery

Shaken, not stirred! Now we’re really rocking the boat: this one isn’t even a winery. That’s oh-so-Paso, mind you! Never (ever) boring, Krobar Craft Distillery has brought a punch of originality to Paso Robles Wine Country’s world recognized wine scene. With a range of outrageously creative spirits—including whiskey, bourbon, rum and vermouth—plus uniquely pungent bitters (olallieberry citrus, anyone?), your next cocktail can be a total talking piece. Be warned, however: These bottles are far from something you’d find in your father’s bar cart. Expect elevated and eclectic booze crafted by local winemakers looking to make a big splash.

For mapping and directions to Krobar click here

5. Revel in the history with Austin Hope & Treana Tasting Cellars

Here comes trouble! Well, Hope Family Wines’ famous “Troublemaker” wine, that is. You might already know the famously rich, fruit-forward red blend, but have you ventured into the winery’s full stable of outstanding offerings? With several crowd-pleasing labels, including Treana, Quest, and Liberty School, you’re in for a a multi-dimensional experience, to be sure. Thanks to 30 years of winemaking heritage, the Hope family has done its part to cultivate decades worth of enjoyment for a once unrecognized region. Hard to believe Paso was once just a blip on the map, right?  Now, you can step into that history, sip by sip. The next chapter begins with you!

Cool off with these Summer-approved Paso Robles Whites

Cannonball! Beat the heat and break out the chilled white wine. The return of triple digit weather means finding refreshingly new and delicious ways to cool off. Well, in Paso Robles Wine Country, that is! Here, our summer mantra is all about hydration, relaxation and experimentation. Alternate between cold ice water and these unique, crisp whites for a cool wave of flavor that beckons for one last sip. Still feeling hot-headed? Take a dip in the pool! In Paso Robles, there’s no shortage of ways to hit the “refresh” button on your socially distant summer vacation.

1. Try them all at Brecon Estate

Why would you ever choose just one? Known for crafting crisp, refreshing whites that are both food friendly and fruit forward, Brecon Estate is full of sumptuous summer surprises. The winery’s amazing Summer Six Pack Special is a tall drink of yum wrapped up in one distinctly Paso Robles package. Enjoy two 2019 Brecon Estate 2019 Albarino offerings, two Rosé offerings and two bottles of the winery’s True Acacia Head Albarino, bursting with tart grapefruit grandeur. Spice up your summer barbecue and keep those fresh flavors in rotation!

Splash in!

Brecon Estate is currently open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment. For more information, call (805) 239-2200.

2. Celebrate anything at Cass Winery

All bubbles, no troubles. Why not just celebrate the day, whatever it happens to be? Pop the cork and kick back at the Cass Winery patio, a hot weather hangout perfect for sipping away the afternoon in style. Nosh on chef-crafted plates paired with our new summer love: Cass Winery’s 2018 Sparkling Viognier. With floral notes and tiny, delicate bubbles that tickle the nose, expect a dry citrus finish that simply cries out for zesty crab cakes. Luckily, the tasting room has those, too! You’re in good hands, my friend.

Splash in!

Cass Winery is open Sunday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (805) 239-1730.

3. Find your French at Écluse

What’s “French” for “chill vibes?” Allow us to translate, one sip at a time. Just head to Écluse, where limited production, handcrafted bottles exude a certain je ne sais quoi. The winery’s 2017 Chardonnay is no exception to the rule. Aged for 14 months both in stainless steel and French oak to produce a crisp yet complex flavor profile, you’ll get a hint of that classic creaminess cut with a healthy dose of sunny acidity. How’s that for effortless chic in a glass?

Splash in!

The Écluse tasting room is open for tasting this Fourth of July weekend by appointment, and if you cannot make it, you can purchase bottles from their web store. Check back with the tasting room for updates on future weekends that they are open by emailing kelly@eclusewines.com.

4. Stretch out at Four Lanterns Winery

You promised yourself you’d tackle that summer reading list. Here’s a novel idea: Sprawl out on the lush, green lawn at Four Lanterns Winery and enjoy a socially distant picnic with your favorite book (and perhaps your favorite pod-mate). Whatever you do, be sure to bask in the winery’s best and brightest whites, including Four Lantern’s 2018 Apricity Rhone Blend and 2017 Lamplight Viognier. Both Rhone offerings are golden and unforgettable (not unlike a famous Paso Robles sunset).

Four Lanterns Winery is open by appointment. For more information, call (805) 226-5955.

5. Iron Oaks Winery

Remember eggs Benedict? The wise folks at Iron Oaks Winery want to remind you to brunch it up this summer. Whether you toast over pancakes through Zoom or prepare a spread of smoked salmon in the backyard, make room in your schedule for a long leisurely breakfast that turns into a late, great lunch. In Paso Robles Wine Country, temps begin to soar just past 11 a.m. Give your Sunday tradition a splash of flirty refreshment with Iron Oaks Wild as You Rosé dripping with watermelon and guava goodness. Next up: a luxurious summer siesta. Last one to the hammock is a rotten egg!

Splash in!

Iron Oaks Winery is open Sunday through Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. For more information, call (805) 257-8041.

Hop back in the tasting saddle with these reopened Paso Wineries

Have you heard the grand news? Paso is officially back in business! Break open the good stuff, it’s time to celebrate. Yes, ALL Paso Robles wineries have been given the green light to reopen for wine tasting! Excited to jump back in the tasting saddle but don’t quite know where to start?

Luckily, we’ve compiled up-to-date information on the currently reopened Wineries, Distilleries, Restaurants, and Hotels in Paso Robles Wine Country. Before you head out there, be sure to read our handy guide for safe tasting during COVID-19, too. OK. Now you’re ready to  taste with the best of them. No need to hold your horses any longer. Here’s five tasting rooms opening their doors (and their bottles) just for you.

1. Hang like a local at the Hayseed and Housdson Tasting Garage

Hit the garage. Well, the tasting garage that is! At Hayseed and Housdon, you’re always just one of the gang (and hanging at the industrial chic space feels a lot like being admitted into a way cool clubhouse). This unique Paso Robles craft wine hangout might be the only tasting room of its kind in Paso Robles, a laid back space where you can sip small lot wines made with minimal intervention. Plus, 50% of all profits are donated to SLO County based nonprofits, which always feels good. Want to sip like a local? Be sure to try the winery’s popular Rhone Rodeo, featuring grenache grapes sourced from Edna Valley to the South. The motto here is simple: ‘The first rule of Hayseed and Housdon is that there are no rules. Just show respect for one another!” That means using common sense when social distancing (and always being prepared to make a new friend or three).

Current Hours: Thursday – Monday noon to 6 p.m.
For more information, call (805) 674-4700

Mapping and directions to Hayseed and Houdon click here

2. Find the finer things in life at Chateau Margene

When’s the last time you really treated yourself? No, a bubble bath doesn’t count! If wine-approved self care is what you seek, then Chateau Margene should be on your Paso Robles tasting list. Thanks to the boutique winery’s array of sumptuous, velvety and downright luscious cabernet sauvignon offerings, you’re never far from a memorable, lingering finish. With a food menu that truly stands up to “King Cab” (including fine cheeses and charcuterie, delectable salads and gourmet sandwiches) you’ll feel pampered from the first sip to the final bite. Relax and let Chateau Margene’s friendly tasting room staff take the reins for a while. Standard COVID-19 social distancing and sanitation practices are firmly set in place, which allows you to truly unwind. Let go and sink into the very lap of luxury.

Current Hours: Daily by appointment – 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For more information, call (805) 238-2321

3. Let your hair down at Lusso Della Terra

Life has gotten so complicated lately. Let’s get back to the simple pleasure of enjoying a fabulous glass of Paso Robles wine in the warm sunshine, shall we? At Lusso Della Terra, savor lunch on the patio while you take in gorgeous vineyard views. Whether you pick up a picnic basket filled with wine, cheese, salami, box of crackers, and two wine glasses to keep or go for a sandwich and a side salad, we promise this will be the best part of your day. Although the winery recommends advance reservations, same-day booking is no issue at all. As usual, the folks at Lusso Della Terra are more concerned with wowing you with their stellar selection of red, white and rosé delights. Time to taste what you’ve been missing!

Father’s Day alert! To show their thanks to fathers, Lusso Della Terra is offering FREE wine flights to all fathers this weekend. Meat and cheese trays will be available and on Sunday add in a special tri-tip sandwich and burgers from CGrill Catering Co. Time to celebrate all you dads in style!

Current Hours: Saturday through Monday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For more information, call (805) 239-9463

4. Step inside the storybook at Tooth and Nail

The castle has lowered its draw-bridge, y’all. For avid fans of Tooth and Nail Winery (and there are many), this couldn’t be more exciting news. Receive the royal treatment at Paso Roble’s resident storybook haunt, where expansive outdoor patio seating makes social distancing a snap. Sample dozens of varietals and blends spanning Tooth and Nail, Rabble, Statis, and Amor Fati labels all while marveling at the well-appointed estate. You should know that this royal decree has gone into effect across the land: doors are kept open to allow airflow inside the tasting room, hand sanitizer can be found at every turn and admittance will be limited to curb crowds. Sure, this means you should certainly make a reservation  before hopping into your carriage, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still pretend to storm the castle.

Current Hours: Sat through Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. to  8 p.m.
For more information, call (805) 369-6100

5. Just enjoy at Jada

Imagine this: You’re comfortably reclined at a table at Jada, shaded by leafy oaks. Birds flit from branch to branch as you sip and swirl the afternoon away on the sun dappled deck. This pastoral wonderland is not far from your dreams, we can promise that! Combine with a cheese plate for maximum yum factor and set your e-mail away message to “vacation,” if only just for the weekend. Spend a little quality time with your doggie pal or invite your human pod (book a hosted, sit down group experience featuring five current releases paired with fantastic fromage). For once, there’s absolutely no rush and nowhere you need to be. Have sweeter words ever been uttered?

Current Hours: Daily from 11 a.m. to 4:45

5 things to know about Paso Robles Wineries Reopening

Hooray! Paso Robles wineries and tasting rooms are re-opening! After a long, three-month closure due to state-mandated COVID-19 restrictions, winery patios, lounges and tasting bars will again clink to life. Mark your calendar for Friday, June 12—a celebratory date that we’ll all remember, to be sure.

Although the mood in Paso Robles Wine Country is decidedly joyous, winery owners, winemakers, and staff urge all visitors to heed all posted safety precautions, which may differ from winery to winery. We are not out of the woods yet with COVID-19, so be sure to temper that soaring enthusiasm with a dose of measured caution.

Still, what Paso Robles wine drinker isn’t jazzed about this new development? We’re certainly allowed to do a little happy dance. Here’s 5 things you should know about Paso Robles Wine Country re-opening. See you out there!

(Before you dive into the blog, ENTER the Wine Country Getaway SWEEPSTAKES! Click Here)

1. Enjoy the wine, but stay safe

Sure, you can’t wait to get back out to scenic Paso Robles for a day of world class tastings and epic sight seeing. We get it! Just remember a lot of other folks are stoked on the exact same idea. Summer is a popular time for tourists to head out to Paso Robles and the Central Coast of California in general, so be sure to employ social distancing when you can. Bring your trusty bottle of hand sanitizer or use the anti-bacterial wipes, sprays and gels provided to you, depending on the winery. While you’re never mandated to wear a mask in Paso Robles, some wineries may suggest a face covering for certain areas of the facility. Similarly, make sure you note any signage regarding tables and seating (it’s still a good idea to sit six feet away from others, whether inside or out). When in doubt, bring a picnic blanket to ensure you can spread out on the lawn and enjoy the simple pleasure of sunshine, wine and good times.

Enjoy responsibly: Eberle Winery is always a bustling tasting room in Paso Robles, especially during those fun-loving summer months. It’s always a great idea to take your wine outside to a table on the breezy tasting deck (not only is the scenery stunning, but you can ensure your distance from other patrons). The winery will re-open officially near the end of June. Can’t wait? Neither can we.

Mapping and Directions to Eberle click here

2. Branch out

Try something new and you might find your next favorite. Paso Robles wineries have taken a financial hit over the past few months. In simple terms: Many winery owners could use a boost! If you’ve always gone to one particular winery, consider branching out to support a few while on your journey in Paso Robles Wine Country. Small, family owned boutique wineries are bountiful across the region and they truly appreciate your support, especially now. Note: Be sure to check the updated hours for each tasting room you plan to visit ahead of time. Not all wineries will go back to their pre-COVID-19 hours right away or at all. You can always call the tasting room, as staff members are happy to give you the lowdown on their own version of “the new normal.”

Try this: If you’ve never experienced Seven Oxen Estate Wines, you’re in for a real treat. Sample their luscious Rhone reds, like Seven Oxen’s 2016 Mourvedre, with tart cherry notes and earthy undertones.

Mapping and Directions to Seven Oxen click here

3. Food is available

Dig in, friends! All this red tape surrounding exactly what wineries can and can’t do might have sent your head into a tizzy. We get it. Let us be the ones to reassure you that yes, many wine tasting rooms that served food before COVID-19 will continue to do so. However, do remember that some food-serving wineries may still be offering a limited menu. As tasting room staff—and celebrated winery chefs—prepare for this exciting reopening, come hungry, but don’t forget to pack a snack (just in case).

Nosh on: Dine at Villa San-Juliette, and lunch with the best of them. Whether you crave a turkey pesto wrap or a smattering of olives, hummus and gourmet cheese, you’ll never feel peckish at this gorgeous oasis nestled above the rolling hills of San Miguel.

Mapping and Directions to Villa San Juliette click here

4. You can still get curbside pick up and great shipping deals

Not sure you’re ready to venture out to Paso Robles wineries just yet? We totally understand. Not everyone is in a health position to visit these amazing tasting rooms in person. We hear you. Before you start to feel left out, remember: Many wineries are still offering incredible once-in-a-lifetime deals on bottles, cases and shipping costs. Perhaps you won’t be lounging on the veranda at your favorite tasting room for quite a while, but you can still enjoy the fruit of their labors. Cheers to that.

Virtually delicious: So you aren’t prepared to walk among the vines this month. You know what you can do? Take a virtual tour of Paso Robles tasting rooms here! It’s the second-best thing to being there in person. Pair with great wine for the full effect.

5. Stay in Paso

Rest easy. In recent months, Paso Robles area hotels were able to fill only half of its rooms (due to COVID-19 restrictions). Now, this order is no more. That means you can visit Paso Robles Wine Country without fear that rooms won’t be available. The more the merrier! For your peace of mind, you should know that local hotel owners are making a big fuss of keeping things spic and span: new safety protocols, like the frequent cleaning of high traffic areas have gone into effect across the region.

Stay: The Hampton Inn and Suites in Paso Robles offers up that perfect mix of down-home hospitality and a touch of luxury. Expect plush beds, free wifi and even pet friendly rooms. Located a hop skip and a jump from dozens of fantastic Paso Robles wineries, you’ll find a cozy home away from home paired with the best flavors around.

Robert Hall’s 2019 Sauvignon Blanc greets the senses with crisp apple and citrus aromas and a satisfyingly dry finish. While in the past screw tops may have indicated lesser quality, a bevy of incredible sought-after wines are now endowed with those gloriously easy-to-open closures. Huzzah!

2. Feeling the stain

Oops you did it again. Who hasn’t accidentally bumped a glass (or two…or three) off the bar? At Paso Robles wine tasting rooms, you’ll never get the side-eye for a making this all-too-common boo boo. I mean, we do like to talk with our hands around here! When you slosh a little syrah onto your favorite blouse, try to stay calm and grab the salt or white vinegar or Wine Away (wine lovers consider keeping a spray bottle handy at all times). In Paso Robles, wine stains aren’t necessarily a bad thing. Think of them as ever-lasting memories you’ll wear around forever.

Sooo worth it: Even if you do spill a little wine on your most comfy pair of skinny jeans, at least you’ll know you enjoyed yourself. That’s especially true if you’re drinking Pelletiere’s 2017 Syrah, a smooth, decadent red that pairs perfectly with oak-grilled ribs (and barbecue sauce-covered fingers). Finger lickin’ good!

3. Cork dork

D’oh! If you’ve ever had a cork break up while you’re trying to open a bottle of wine, you know the true meaning of frustration. Instead of straining the wine or pouring teeny bits of cork into your glass (not-so-yummy), grab a simple drinking straw. Put the straw over the bits of cork, hold your finger over the top to create suction, and lift the cork bits right out! Yes, you can thank us later.

Poppin’ bottles: You won’t have to deal with stubborn corks at all when you go for a sumptuous sparkling wine that pops off with festive flair. Sculpterra’s Sparkling Wine is a stone-fruity affair strewn with ribbons of bright bubbles. What are we celebrating? Who cares?

4. Air head

Everyone knows that oxygen is kryptonite to that fancy bottle of wine. While a bit of air allows the full beauty of the flavors and aromas to bloom, too much air for too long will bring on off-putting vinegar tones and a brownish-orange color. Alas, you’ve got half a bottle of delicious Paso Robles wine on your counter with no intention of chugging the other half before bed. Savor that precious wine for a few more days (and minimize the trauma of oxidation) by sucking out the air with a vacuum stopper. Whew! Crisis averted. No harm no foul.

Keeping it fresh: ONX’s Reckoning 2013, a powerful blend of syrah, petite sirah, cabernet sauvignon and malbec, should be cherished till the very last drop! Exuberant and flashy, the nose offers up layers of bold aromatics worth preserving (not to mention the palate, a racy mix of Asiann spices, plum sauce and toasted pistachio). Wow. Could this wine be even better the next day?

5. No chill

So you bought a refreshing bottle of Paso Robles rosé just in time for the beach hang. Unfortunately, just like your least favorite nosey neighbor, the wine has absolutely zero chill. What to do? When it comes to cooling down bottles super fast, we here in Paso Robles prescribe to a no-fuss method that works every time: Wrap your wine in a damp towel and pop it in the freezer for a spell. While it usually takes somewhere around three hours for a room temp bottle to get to its perfect state of chilled perfection, you can do the deed in no less than ten minutes. Wow. Go you!

So cool: It’s gonna be a hot one. Trust us: you’ll want to stock several bottles of Allegretto Wines 2019 Rosé Tannat in your fridge this summer. Effortlessly drinkable yet totally sophisticated, it will be your companion for cheese plates and fruit salads alike. If only fitting into last summer’s  swimsuit was this easy!
