Anarchy Wines 2019 Superfly
Organized chaos: Crafted by Paso Robles rockstar winemaker Christian Tietje, Anarchy Wines are designed to obliterate the rules and open the mind to new modes of flavor expression. Trippy, right? This unconventional blend of zinfandel, cabernet and petite sirah smacks of dark berry flavors, features velvety tannins and boasts an elegant structure that still packs a wild punch. In other words, it is, indeed, “super fly!” Bending convention while staying true to varietal purity is not an easy task for any winemaker to tackle. Perhaps that’s why each sip of this rocking red feels a little bit like a revolution! Can ya dig it?
The red for white drinkers: Still have that annoying friend who insists on drinking white wine, no matter what the occasion? Well, not for long! Enter this Bodega de Edgar 100% grenache offering, sure to expand their palate at first sip. This wine, vinified via carbonic maceration, features a fabulously light red body and floral aroma appropriate for a winter night or summer day (not many wines can say that, trust us). Refreshing yet still alluringly complex, you’ll find that the carbonic treatment gives the wine’s already juicy flavor profile of cherry, raspberry and blueberry a distinct “gumdrop” character. In other words: This wine was designed to win the white vs. red argument. Consider them converted.
Mic drop moment: Wow ’em with your knowledge of the best, most exclusive releases Paso has to offer and you’ll soon be fielding wine questions like a pro. When blending their 2017 vintages, the folks at Écluse found a selection of barrels so exceptionally amazing, they just had to mix them all up into one knock-your-socks-off release. The result? A show stopping Bordeaux-style blend that boasts a uniquely Paso twist, a dash of tannat and carignan heighten the already exceptional blend of malbec, cabernet sauvignon and merlot—and it all culminates in a vibrant-in-a-color, aromas of cherry and vanilla and flavors of cola and red fruit. Ending with a supremely smooth finish, this wine is one tough act to follow.
You had me at “viognier:” French fantasy, eat your heart out! Think a white wine can’t stand its own against a lineup of luscious reds? Think again! Pull out this easy-sipping Still Waters viognier and watch Cupid’s arrow fly straight to their heart. A full-bodied, dry white wine with a medium splash of acidity, your lover will note the fragrant bouquet of caramelized pear, toasty vanilla, and delicate white honeysuckle blossom virtually oozing from the glass. Really, if this were a new perfume, we’d be first in line to purchase.
