We’re so unbelievably spoiled in Paso Robles Wine Country (our cup truly runneth over with world class wines). But that doesn’t mean that’s all we’re about. In fact, our temperate, year-long growing season is a boon to farmers, ranchers and gourmet chefs alike! From luxurious olive oils and farm-to-table entrees to surprising spirits that raise the bar, Paso Robles has made a name for itself as the place to taste. Of course, nothing pairs better with these bonus sensory experiences quite like—you guessed it—a bottle of delicious Paso Robles wine!
Farm fresh food
Belly up to our bountiful table. The restaurant scene in Paso Robles is all about fresh, locally grown goodness that smacks of exactly where it was grown. Yes, that carrot was probably plucked from the field yesterday and placed on your plate today (and oh yes, you can absolutely tell the difference). With a vibrant foodie scene full of exciting pairings and unique plates, downtown is the perfect hangout for a fancy romantic dinner or just a casual girl’s night out. Try Thomas Hill Organics for a seasonally fresh meal that wows, Fish Gaucho for a modern twist on Mexican fare, and Pappy McGregor’s for upscale pub grub that really sticks to your gills. The best part? Each of these eateries features an awesome list of Paso wines to sip and savor while you dine!
Excellent olive oil
Drizzle it on! Paso’s mediterranean climate is great for growing wine grapes—why wouldn’t it be fabulous for growing olives, too? This is exactly what wise farmers banked on long ago, noting Paso’s consistently warm weather and ample sunshine. Today, you can still find great EVOO in Paso Robles (we’re not talking about that boring super market stuff, though). At Pasolivo, experience award-winning oils infused with rosemary, citrus, garlic—or go for a classic, single variety oil featuring grassy notes and a subtle peppery finish. Warning: You’ll want to pour these oils on everything…better grab two or three.
We’re spirited around here! Yes, we do know how to have a good time in Paso Robles. Case in point: Krobar Distillery, Paso’s solution to boring, uninspired cocktails. With deliciously smoky bourbon, Kaffir lime vodka and a rainbow of gin, rum, whiskey and bitters in between, your bar cart (and future party attendees) will thank you. Weird but true: the ultimate swanky cocktail begins here, in wine country! Swing by the tasting room and sample for yourself…we think you’ll find these beauties were made to sip slowly.
Estate raised beef
Where’s the beef? Turns out it’s been hiding in Paso Robles all these years. Local meat is a specialty around here, where rolling grassy hillsides offer up natural fodder for premium cattle (it’s true, happy cows do come from California). Iron Oaks Winery knows a thing or two about a quality cut: in fact, you can pick up a few pounds of local, pasture-raised beef at this fun-loving Paso tasting room. Plus, Oso Libre and Rangeland wineries offer up their own incredible estate-raised meats made to melt in your mouth. Fire up the grill and pop that cork! It’s barbecue time.
You’re never far from your next great nibble. By now, you know that Paso Robles is chock full of incredible restaurants. But did you know that several local wineries also serve up serious food alongside those fabulous wines? You can expect more than a humble cheese plate at Parrish Family Vineyard, where the seasonal menu features house made sourdough just begging to be dipped in a rich fig and olive tapenade (also on the menu: a refreshing soba noodle salad, seasonal flatbreads and macarons for dessert). Never reach for a bowl of dry tasting room crackers again. I mean, why would you?
