Around here, fall is more a state of mind—and a state of flavor. Still, that first nip of cool air has us bundling up prematurely (in Paso Robles Wine Country, even Autumn is sunny and temperate). With shorter days on the horizon and holidays on the brain, we’re ready for festive reds, sumptuous blends and celebratory offerings to replace chilled whites and refreshing roses. Maybe it’s the fact that harvest season is in full swing or perhaps it’s the vines turning from green to gold. Either way, we’re gravitating towards a richer glass. How about you? If you’re feeling the festive vibes too, you’ll want to check out these 5 fall favorites ready to add a dose of comfort to those cozy days ahead!
Robert Hall 2018 Paso Red
Baked to perfection: Warming aromas of berry cobbler, savory herbs and tobacco give this full-bodied blend instant Autumnal appeal. Featuring fine grained tannins on the mid-palate and a long spicy finish, you’ll wonder if this Robert Hall wine—comprised of 43% petite sirah, 21% syrah, 19% zinfandel, 10% petit verdot, 4% grenache, 3% mourvedre—isn’t imbued with a bit of grandma’s love, too. Truly, it is bewitching to behold—and even better when served with apple pie!
Sculpterra 2019 Pinot Noir
Juicy and jubilant: Sculpterra jam packs this wine with fresh, easy drinking red fruit aromas and subtle bouquets of earthy spice, this celebratory showstopper is worthy of any upcoming dinner party or soiree. Dazzle them with flavors of pomegranate and candied berries bolstered by whiffs of floral bliss (don’t you wish your whole house could smell like that?). With a distinct French feel that finishes smooth and plush, this pinot noir only tastes like it should cost an arm and a leg! Never a bad thing, right?
Eberle 2018 Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon
Stroll with me: With approachable tannins, juicy acidity, and flavors of black cherry, red currant, black plum, and dried sage, this wine feels a lot like walking amongst fallen leaves on a cool Paso Robles evening. Medium bodied yet never too overpowering in its heft, this unassuming red is happiest paired with a burger or a bit of aged cheddar. Think of this one as your go-to fall boots, just like Eberle: well loved, comfortable and totally classic.
Dubost 2016 Grenache Noir
Romance is served: Looking for date night in a bottle? Reach for this alluring Dubost Wines red, which boasts just enough mystery to keep you and your beloved guessing from first to last sip. Beguiling aromas of cherry, strawberry, jasmine, rhubarb and soft leather entice the senses, while grippy tannins and spicy fruit flavors lead to velvety, altogether sensual mouth feel. Now we’ve got goosebumps!
Seven Oxen Estate Wines 2016 Cassidy
Action packed: The only blend in Seven Oxen’s line-up, you know you’re going to be in for a singular experience that bursts with verve and excitement to spare (trust us, this wine is not for the faint of heart). Unabashedly big and complex with a round, tannic structure, dare to explore powerful notes of black and red fruit balanced by earthy notes of leather and herbs. Get ready for a full body experience that begs for the boldest, savoriest feast-foods.
