Wildlife and wine barrels, cabernet sauvignon and cowboy boots—that’s so Paso! The rumors really are true: Paso Robles Wine Country is unlike any other wine region in the world. Sure, we’re known for bold, world class wines, but that’s only the half the story. Around here, friendliness is a fact of life and everyone feels welcome to rejoice and kick their feet up. From our charming downtown square to winding backroads flanked by vines, a particularly “Paso” feeling permeates this sunny, happy place. The best part? Our hundreds of unique tasting rooms are open for business with a range of outdoor seating options. Truly, there’s no place like Paso! Find out why right here:
We’re still cowboys (and cowgirls) at heart
Sure, our wines have garnered more gold medals than you can shake a wine thief at. But that doesn’t mean we’re too fancy to rope and ride! Paso Robles has enjoyed a long history as a horse-and-wine town with many winemakers (and wine drinkers) enjoying the laid back equestrian lifestyle. Case in point: Hayseed and Housdon’s 2018 grenache, an homage to this blending of words. The wine, dubbed Rhône Rodeo, defies perception (just as our local winemaking cow-folk do every day). Who knew, for instance, that one of the largest rodeos in the world takes place each year in Saint-Agrève – only a half an hour horse ride from the Rhône wine region of France? Enjoy this dry grenache featuring waves of punchy cherry and plum the way the local riders do: in the saddle, on the trail or in the ring! And feel good as you sip knowing that Hayseed and Housdon donates 50% of its profits to non-profit local organizations.

We know how to eat
While some wine folks speckle your plate with hard-to-pronounce nibbles, Paso is proud to have a big appetite (and an even bigger flavor profile). You could call us “foodies,” but really, that doesn’t quite do us justice! When you come to our table, you better come hungry. Our tasting rooms don’t just offer cheese plates and a handful of dry crackers, oh no. You’re in for a full meal! At Cass Winery, you can chow down one of three made-to-order gourmet burgers, a killer BLT and even seasonal soups crafted with the freshest local ingredients. How fresh? Well, let’s just say your beef was estate raised and you can thank our temperate, all-year growing season for that juicy just-picked produce.

We stay in style
Sure, Paso Robles is home to rural farmland and cute bed and breakfasts that harken back to simpler times. But did you know we also offer up luxurious accommodations rivaling some of the best resorts anywhere? Paso’s Allegretto Vineyard and Resort is a Tuscan-inspired getaway complete with ultra-plush suites, a swanky spa, glittering pool and gorgeously manicured grounds studded with priceless statues and worldly works of art. Plus, with its own wine label (Allegretto Wines), and onsite food service courtesy of Cello Ristorante & Bar, you’re never far from your next premium pairing.

We have a sense of humor
Yes, we love to laugh (especially at ourselves)! With funny labels and serious wines, Chronic Cellars exemplifies Paso’s laid back vibe and cheerful spirit. Founded by a pair of fun-loving surfer/winemaker brothers, each bottle boasts its own bold and irreverent attitude. From the Day of the Dead inspired artwork on the labels to the breezy lawn-games that unfold at the winery’s chill outdoor tasting area, these are wines you don’t have to think too hard about to enjoy. I mean, anyone who names their popular red Rhone blend “Sofa King Bueno” deserves a round of applause, right?

We’re stewards of the land
When you think of red-blooded ranchers, you probably don’t think “biodynamic farming,” but the hardworking family behind Rangeland Winery truly showcase Paso’s commitment to the land. Around here, it’s all about a natural approach! This goes for the family’s carefully rotated grass fed beef operation as well as its precious vines. With 40 acres planted of wine grapes and 1,500 acres of wild oak woodland, Mother Nature is allowed to take its course (a rich habitat of native plants and animals call this region home). About 200 sheep graze the vineyard when dormant, adding natural fertilizer to the land and eliminating mechanical mowing or herbicides. It’s all in a day’s work in Paso.
