Modern marvel: While some folks deem summer wines frivolous, we take a very different tack! This August, break out Hayseed and Housdon’s Excuse My Dust – Edna Valley Chardonnay and watch as minds are blown. Elegant yet playful, this uniquely Paso Robles offering is more comparable to a white burgundy than a typical oaked California chard. Fermented in new French oak barrels and finished in neutral oak to ensure that the tannins and toast don’t overwhelm the subtleties of the fruit—you’ll find a surprisingly juicy chardonnay that blends old world tradition with of-the-moment refreshment.
Go toward the light: In Paso Robles Wine Country, a chilled white can be just as exciting as the most robust red. Don’t believe us? There’s nothing boring about Ecluse Wines’ 2019 Prelude, a white Rhone style blend layered with enticing complexity. Boasting a beautiful golden straw color and showcasing aromas of honeysuckle and pear, savor a palate that shines with star-power viognier. Nectarine, mango and a hint of agave round out what can only be called a riveting white wine-drinking experience.

The newly-released 2021 vintage features 80 percent stainless steel, 20 percent old French barrel-aged syrah made in the saignée method—so you know it’s legit. As the soft rose gold wine swirls in your glass, enjoy lovely aromas of pink grapefruit and lychee.
