Step into a century of Paso Robles wine history at Parrish Family Vineyard, where the Parrish family’s deep roots and passion for exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon shine through in every glass. Located in the prestigious Adelaida District at 3590 Adelaida Road, this family-owned estate combines old-world heritage with modern winemaking artistry, creating award-winning Bordeaux varietals that honor both tradition and innovation.
The Experience
Settle in for an afternoon that feels less like a formal tasting and more like visiting friends who happen to make world-class wine. Whether you’re relaxing on the vineyard-view patio or cozying up in the welcoming tasting room—designed to echo the family’s original Creston homestead—you’re in for something special.
The $35 wine tasting showcases five standout wines, including their highly-rated Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, the elegant Silken Blend, Four Chords Bordeaux blend, Chardonnay, and Rosé. Want to go deeper? Book a guided winery and vineyard tour (Thursday through Monday) for an insider’s look at the winemaking process that’s earned Parrish Family Vineyard praise from Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling alike.
But here’s where Parrish Family Vineyard really shines: their impressive culinary program. The estate chef creates a delicious and varied menu where each dish is thoughtfully paired with specific Parrish wines to elevate both the food and the wine.
Dig into focaccia with herbed oil, papas bravas, roasted game hen plates, pressed turkey sandwiches, or The B.L.T.A. on house-made Cabernet sourdough. Yes, you read that right—Cabernet sourdough. Between tastings, try your hand at the complimentary putting green with putters and golf balls. It’s the kind of relaxed, unhurried afternoon that makes Paso Robles wine country so irresistible.
What Makes It Special
The Parrish family’s winemaking story stretches back 100 years to 1925, when David Parrish’s grandfather, Earl Henderson, planted over 540 acres of wine grapes in Atascadero during Prohibition—including Zinfandel cuttings from the famed Paderewski Ranch. As one of Atascadero’s founding fathers, Henderson even received P.O. Box 1, a legacy now commemorated on one of the winery’s special labels.
Fast forward to winemaker David Parrish, a 1974 UC Davis graduate who spent five decades designing and installing vineyard trellising systems for legendary wineries like Robert Mondavi, Sterling Vineyards, and Beringer. After helping shape California wine country, David returned to his family’s Central Coast roots in 2004 to establish Parrish Family Vineyard, bringing that wealth of knowledge and experience to Paso Robles.
Today, the winery manages 70 acres across estate vineyards in the Adelaida and Creston Districts, specializing in Bordeaux varietals grown in Paso Robles’ renowned calcareous limestone soils. Their mission? Creating “Napa-style Cabs” right here in Paso Robles—and the accolades speak for themselves. Wine Enthusiast awarded their 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 6 an impressive 96 points, among other outstanding scores for their 2019 vintage.
This is a truly family-run operation in every sense. You’ll often find David pouring wines in the tasting room alongside his daughter Cecily (Director). When you visit Parrish Family Vineyard you’re becoming part of a family story that’s been unfolding for a century.
