The weekend of April 7 and 8 marks Wine 4 Paws tenth anniversary, and you can give back to all of these animals in need by simply raising a wine glass. More than 80 participating local wineries have banded together to say, “We care.” All you have to do is meander over to these awesome locations over the weekend of April 7 and 8 and taste fabulous wines. Tasting rooms will give either tasting fees or a percentage of weekend sales to Woods Humane Society, SLO County’s hard-working no-kill shelter. It’s not often that doing good tastes this great, so now is the time to savor and swirl to your heart’s content.
1. Taste at these Wineries to support Woods Humane Society April 7-8
The weekend of April 7-8 calls for sunny Spring weather. Toast to all the good work Woods Humane Society has been up to with fresh and optimistic wines that call to mind light and love.
Try Lusso Della Terra Cellars 2016 Rose of Syrah, a barrel aged beauty with notes of hibiscus and rose, a creamy mouthfeel, and hints of vanilla and red cherry on the palate.
Stop by Oso Libre for a taste of the winery’s 2015 Alsacia Dry Riesling, which is totally crisp, with a nose of papaya, Asian pear, and Kaffir lime (this light bodied wine finishes with lemongrass, honey and apricot juiciness).
Known for heritage reds, Rotta Winery’s also got a totally spring-worthy 2016 Sauvignon Blanc of its own. Vibrant and alive, this wine is all about bright citrus, key lime pie, gooseberry, and hints of fresh cut grass. Playful citrus and orange blossom linger on the palate, laced with crisp acidity.
Savor Kiamie’s range of delicious Westside white blends, including the winery’s popular 2016 White Kuvee, a stony, flinty Rhone blend flecked with Georgia peach, nectarine, fried mango, and sweet herb appeal. Cutruzzola’s 2012 Riesling Niven Rock Vineyard is overflowing with coastal notes of lime, orange blossom, and crushed stone paired with a creamy texture and long, elegant finish.
3. More about Woods
Woods Humane Society is a nonprofit organization which receives no tax funds, but is supported by donations, grants, bequests, fundraising events and fees for services. Woods is independent of San Luis Obispo County Animal Services, but works in close cooperation with them and other animal groups in the county for the welfare of all animals. Woods now cares for over 2,500 cats and dogs each year at two facilities in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero until they can be united with loving forever families. Volunteers bring in animals from other shelters where they are less likely to be adopted and from individuals who are no longer able to care for their pets. The nonprofit is extremely proud of the fact that last year 99% of the animals that came into the shelter found new homes.
