Sugar plums and hot cocoa is nice, but we say bring on the spice! The holidays are all about doing good for others: the gifts, the cooking, and then endless planning to get people in the same place at the same time for all that “togetherness.” All that sounds pleasant, true…but what about the naughty list? Something tells us they’re having a little more fun.
Brecon – 2016 Forty-Two Red Rhone Blend
Be irreverent and daring. Inspired by the darkly humorous Sci-Fi tome “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” this wine promises to answer the ultimate question in life, the universe—everything! OK, perhaps a wine can’t do all that, but this wine’s soft, velvety smooth layers showcase an intriguing blend of flavors that keep revealing more and more to explore (not unlike stargazing the Milky Way).
Chronic Cellars – 2017 Sofa King Bueno
Be the life of the party. This Grenache, Petite Sirah, Tannat, Syrah, and Mourvedre blend is approachable yet fun, as all good party guests should be, with lively flavors of blackberries, cherries and strawberries to get the conversation started. Plus, this Paso red blend knows how to mingle, introducing milk chocolate, caramel and leather to all those beautiful fruits. It’s going to be an interesting night.
Bodega de Edgar – 2013 York Mountain Syrah
Take a walk on the wild side. Black as night with purple edges, this blackberry and pepper packed Syrah is perfect when paired with a wintery supper of wild game meats. You might also want to check out a 3 Vertical gift box of E-Squared featuring a trio of rebellious reds, too. Consider these wines the biker gang that backs up that bold Syrah, aka “the leader of the pack.”
Hoyt Family Vineyards – Dylema Blend
Go big. Looking for a “fun red blend” to delight your favorite friend? Look no further. Originally created for the Malibu Chili cook off, this raucous red has become a house favorite. A big Cab based blend with a little bit of everything else thrown in, it is smooth and easy on the palette—perfect for bringing generations together (and getting grandma to tell a dirty joke or two).
Pelletiere Estate – 2014 Nebbiolo
Be seduced. This exotic wine exudes sexiness, with elegance and sophistication to boot. As it seductively kisses your lips, dried herb notes of thyme and sage caress your palate. You’ll be head over heels as this irresistible Italian slips you love notes of cocoa and leather. Go on, have a romance to remember, we won’t tell.
