To add extra jolly to your holidays, we are sharing some recent posts about some stand-out wineries. We wish you a Merry Christmas and raise our glasses to salute all of you, the undyingly loyal Paso Robles wine enthusiasts. Cheers!
1. Rangeland Templeton
Pasorobleswineries 🎵 and a partridge in a pear tree 🎶 really, just 2 roosters (so Paso) in an apple tree outside Rangeland’s new tasting room and garden patio in Templeton where they share space with Natures Touch, a local organic grocer and nursery.
Templeton is a fave cowboy town of ours about 10 minutes south of Paso off the 101. Now we have one more reason to pop into this darling, quaint town, that like Rangeland wine, is authentic and without complications. Rangeland’s 1,500 acre ranch (40 acres planted) yields pure wines that have not been fiddled with except by their 200 sheep who graze between the vines when they’re dormant, adding their own natural fertilizer and eliminating 2-3 mowing passes and the use of herbicides. Here at Adelaida Springs Ranch, where Rangeland Wines are grown, their diversified family farm (grapes, wine, grass-fed beef, sheep and honey bees) are owned and tended by Laird and Lisa Foshay.
You’ll usually find Laird in his signature cowboy hat pouring his wines in the tasting room. It’s a treat to sit and chat with him while savoring his wines…he’ll share interesting country-life tidbits about Indian artifacts they’ve found on the ranch, wildflowers, stories about eagles snatching livestock, cougars drinking from the cattle’s water trough, and other abundant wildlife that calls Adelaida Springs Ranch home. Look for the 2 roosters when you visit Rangeland’s tasting room. They are collectively named “The Boys”.

2. Vines On The Marycrest
We’re ushering in Winter (Solstice) at Vines On The Marycrest cool tasting room warming our toes and souls in front of their fireplace with a Zinfandel blend. Lovely views of their vineyard, now but naked vines, on the hill beyond remind you that indeed Winter is here. what better time to gather round a cozy fire with fine wine to share stories and experiences that illuminate life.
Proprietors, winemaker, and vineyard manager, Jenni and Victor have captivating real-life adventures to reveal while pouring their premium wines for you…who else can recount the planting of their first vines in West LA on nun’s property (done withOUT their blessing), diverse rock stars and musicians befriended as a sound engineer in LA, and lovingly selecting and planting thousand of vines after the back-breaking work of ripping out hundreds of abandoned almond trees on their 20 acre Estate Vineyard.Thank you Victor for the upcoming 2018 concerts you’re hosting at the winery, including 2 time Grammy nominated Robbie Fulks on March 17.
In our glass today is My Generation, a Zinfandel blend from Vines On The Marycrest (micro-winery)
Tasting Notes – Deep ruby in color with aromas of cassis and woodsmoke (yes to be enjoyed in front of a crackling fire), and a hint of licorice. The wine exudes a supple, rich and broad appeal with smoky flavors of dark berries and cola. Like life it is complex, ripe, and for most, focused. The blend finishes with a gentle tannic grip and a lingering note of sweet dark fruit. 49% Zinfandel, 33% Syrah, 9% Mourvedre, 9% Petite Sirah.

3. Four Lanterns
Four Lanterns Lamplight 2016 Viognier – Selected as the favorite in a vertical Viognier tasting! The stone fruit flavors are nicely balanced with the right dose of acidity. Pair with seafood dishes (thinking Lobster on Christmas Eve), spicy food & chicken dishes. Four Lanterns Winery sits on 35 acres on the west side of Paso in the Willow Creek AVA & is housed in a rustic wood barn surrounded by Vineyards & gardens. Their 30 year old Viognier & Syrah vines produce lovely wines in addition to their Picpoul Blanc, Grenache, Grenache Blanc, Mourvedre, Claudette Blanche, & Ugni Blanc. The addition of their production facility last year enables their wines to be estate grown & produced. They specialize in wine varietals native to France’s RhĂ´ne Valley & Bordeaux regions.
For those who want to experience what it’s like to live on a vineyard, They have a charming, fully restored farmhouse with a swimming pool that you can rent on airbnb & vrbo.

4.Tooth And Nail
We’re storming the Tooth And Nail Castle with their high scoring Chardonnay 90 POINTS WINE ENTHUSIAST – Amor Fati 2015 Murmur Vineyard Chardonnay (Santa Maria Valley).
Tasting Notes from Wine Enthusiast – “Light and delicate on the nose, this single-vineyard Chardonnay shows white peach, honeysuckle and browned butter on the nose. There is good tension to the sip, but also riper flavors of apple cider, pan-seared pear and lemon preserves.”
We love reading the flavor profiles that various wine experts compose. So many of us pick up different characteristics when tasting and smelling the same wine making our individual wine tasting an adventure!
Here is another take on this lovely Chard from the wine experts @liquorama –
“Displays a lush, velvety mouthfeel, seamlessly integrated minerality, and a crisp lingering finish that begs for countless more. Medium to full body, finishing brioche flavors, a hint of hazelnuts and brown sugar.”

5. Hug Cellars
Wine from Hug Cellars paired with cheese from Sant’Ambrogio Market, Florence – The 2014 Clevenger Vineyard Zinfandel screams of dry cherries, cranberries, and cinnamon spice, with hints of dry raisins. The palate delivers a mouth full of ripe cherries, fruit roll up, spices, and a nice chalky texture from the unique Paso terroir from which it was sourced, Clevenger Vineyard. This is a unique vineyard with head-trained vines located in the southern foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains, Willow Creek District of Paso Robles. This vineyard is over 40 years old, and was started with clippings from the prestigious Ueberroth/Willpete Vineyard.
Enjoy this lovely Zin with BBQ, braised short ribs, and Tri-tip steak. 90 cases produced. Edgar the winemaker, says to enjoy this Zin now, or enjoy through the next 5-7 years. Cheers!
