5 Family Friendly Paso Wine Adventures to Explore

Who’s to say that wine tasting is a purely grown up activity? Sure, your sixteen-year-old probably shouldn’t be consuming old vine zinfandel by the carafe, or any wine for that matter (although the French mighty actually argue this point). However, your kid can still tag along and enjoy the ride, savoring all the food, vineyards, and general wonderment that Paso Robles Wine Country has to offer. With these family friendly wineries offering beautiful outdoor environs to play lawn games or catch some live music, “family fun” has never been more fun … for everyone!

1. Chronic Cellars Lawn Games

Game on. Chronic Cellars is all about serving up serious sophisticated wines that still know how to have a whole lot of fun. Chill out with a glass of the humorously named “Sofa King Bueno,” a popular red blend around these parts, while the kids pick up a rousing game of corn hole, pool, or horseshoes. Kick back and stay a while. No one is worried about how long you’ve “camped out” here. Quench your need to stretch out and unplug (and their burning need to get out of the car and let off a little steam). Sure, you might get asked to referee a few games, but who knows; perhaps you’ll turn into the one arguing passionately over half-points!

2. Lone Madrone Burger Sundays

Lunch is served (and everyone will eat it). Lone Madrone is known for elegant terroir driven wines, but that doesn’t make this tasting room stuffy. In fact, the folks at Lone Madrone believe that killer wine is best paired with killer barbecue! Gather under the oaks with your clan for a longtime tradition: Burger Sundays at Lone Madrone, which kick off every Sunday through Oct. 17 from 11:30-2:30 p.m. Choose from lamb, beef, or vegetarian mushroom burgers (for your environmentally conscious pre-teen). The only rule is to have fun, eat, drink, and be merry (play corn hole for extra points)! Well, that and put the phone down while eating.

3. Sextant Wines Self-Guided Old Edna Tour

Pinot noir for the grown ups and play time for the kiddos? Check and check! Grab a stellar wine tasting at Sextant Winery in Edna Valley (which also boasts a tasting room in Paso Robles on Hwy 46 West). Nosh on some gourmet deli items then head next door, where you’ll find the Old Edna Townsite. Home to historic structures and even an old gypsy wagon, it’s truly is a sight to behold—like something torn from a history book! A self-guided tour is perfect for the kids, who will have a blast imagining just what life was like in Edna more than a hundred years ago. Perhaps they’ll even start to appreciate just how easy their weekly chores really are.

4. Rio Seco Winery Fifth Friday Music and Merriment

Party on, family! End the summer with a bang at Rio Seco Winery’s famously popular Fifth Fridays Music & Merriment party slated for this August 31! Kids and their parental units will love grooving to the sounds of Back Bay Betty, a local band known for its fusion of rhythm and blues, rock n roll and soul sounds. I mean, every generation can agree on that, right? The little ones will be overjoyed to hear that wood-fired pizza is on the menu courtesy of Gypsy Flame Food Truck, and, thanks to a plethora of gourmet toppings that transcend basic “pepperoni,” so will you.

5. Oso Libre Memorial Angus BBQ

Make memories together. Memorial Day is a classic holiday for families of all walks of life to gather, thank our service men and women—and, well, at least in Paso Robles—raise a glass of award winning estate grown Cab. Head to Oso Libre on Saturday, May 25 from noon to 3 p.m. and know that tasting fees from the day will be donated to the Vino for Vets, a local non-profit organization that helps local veterans. Bask in the sunny spring weather at an Estate Angus BBQ featuring wine by the glass, estate Angus burgers, and plenty of cute photo opportunities with the whole fam to post on social media with sheep, alpaca and cattle in the background. Expand your kids’ flavor profiles with a child-friendly food upgraded for sophisticated pleasure: cave aged gruyere, caramelized onion, whole grain mustard aioli, fresh baked brioche bun, and organic field greens all adorn your juicy, oak grilled patty. Looks like you’re raising a little foodie!

How do you do Paso? Show us on Instagram!

Whether you explore the green vineyards, stroll quaint downtown, or embark on an agricultural adventure amid olive or walnut trees, snap your best pic and tag us for a chance to be featured on our social media and blog. With dreamy sunsets, clear blue skies and close proximity to the coast, you’ll find that no filter is ever required. Tag us on Instagram or Twitter @pasorobleswineries with hashtag #HowWeDoPaso.

How we do #BeachDay in Paso

Feel the breeze in your hair and forget your daily worries. Located not far from the picturesque Pacific Ocean, Paso Robles is the perfect place to wine taste as well as beach comb. Locals are known to head for the waves as the temperatures rise (stopping at wine tasting room along the way, of course). Hearst Ranch Winery in San Simeon offers up a cool seaside escape brimming with top tier wines and reserve bottles to explore. Take the opportunity to taste a few fresh finds, then cruise Highway 1, home to Hearst Castle, elephant seals, and beautiful Big Sur.

How we do #RoseAllDay in Paso

Did you know that pink is now the new red? If you had told us ten years ago that European style, dry rosé would become the next hot trend, we would have giggled! Well, this beautiful, salmon-hued wine is certainly having its day in the sun, and we’re all for it. In Paso Robles, you’ll find elegant rosé offerings everywhere. This is not your grandma’s blush, to be sure. Take, for instance, Hoyt Family Vineyards 2017 Pinot Noir Rosé, a sumptuous, sophisticated award-winning wine with notes of strawberry and citrus. It’s sure to make a splash with your followers!

How we do #CheeseandWine in Paso

A perfect pairing awaits you in Paso Robles. Wine and cheese pairings aren’t just for the fancy foodies. Rejoice in an expertly selected snack served in that casual, carefree Paso style! Jada Vineyard is known for its small production boutique wines, made even more marvelous with the addition of fine cheeses. No reservation required to try a wine and cheese pairing; however, if you’d like to ensure space on the winery’s spectacular deck area—with views of lush vineyards as far as the eye can see—you might want to book now. Your InstaStories will be awash with heart emojis!

How we do #NomNom in Paso

With plenty of tasting rooms that offer sit down dining, you’ll never need to leave wine country for a bite, big or small. That means less driving, less parking and less fuss for you. Pull up a chair at Cass Winery, where you can nosh on burgers, salads, sandwiches, charcuterie—even dessert from Leo Leo Gelato. It’s all served with a table side wine flight, so you never need to get up to refill your glass! Yep, this is Paso Robles dining at its most downright delicious (and indulgent). Want to see even more wineries with sit down dining and killer menus? See our blog post all about it here.

How we do #Staycation in Paso

Cozy vacation rentals and bed and breakfasts are beloved by locals in Paso Robles (why would they ever leave this heavenly place?). Area hotels, too, feature that totally Paso personal touch. La Bellasera Hotel and Suites isn’t just any old resort—it’s a true Paso Robles Wine Country experience. Choose from several packages—“Wine Country,” “Bike Tour and Tasing,”  “Dine in Style,” “Wine Tours,” or “Soothing Spa” and make a weekend (or week) of it. Just keep your location setting switched to “off.” Otherwise, your friends maya attempt to crash your solo room service party.

5 Wine Pairings that’ll make Mom proud

Plans with Mother Dearest? Don’t leave it all up to chance. When it comes to showing the top lady in your life just how much you appreciate her advice, her smile, and her sense of humor, you can never go to big or too overboard. We say, delight her senses with these fun wine pairings (she’ll be so impressed). When’s the last time you and your mother had an afternoon all to yourselves? Time to fix that. This one’s for the matriarch—viva mama! Extra points for making this meal yourself with a homemade card. Is there anything better?

1. 2017 Seven Oxen Rose with Strawberry Shortcake

This limited production 2017 Rosé is a pressée style wine, produced from estate grapes harvested just for this unique offering (because she’s worth it). Notes of strawberry, raspberry, currant, and rose petals are dominant in this fruit-forward Grenache/Mourvèdre blend. Better than fancy perfume, to be sure.

Recipe: Bring on the berries. This iconic strawberry shortcake is heightened by the wine’s lush, ripe fruit flavors. Talk about a perky combo.

2. Opolo Sparkling Wine with Grilled Peach, Brie, and Basil Sandwich

A giggle in a glass, this Opolo Sparkling Wine is sure to spark joy. The wine features a lovely bouquet of peach, and apple. The soil composition in the vineyards consists of rich loam with alluvial deposits from granite sources with aide in drainage. Composed entirely of French Colombard, an off spring of Chenin Blanc, their sparkling is produced in the Méthod Charmat technique. The sparkling is perfect for the enjoyment of your finest celebrations. Only the best for Ma!

Recipe: The peaches in this gooey grilled sandwich mimic notes of stone fruit in the sparkling wine—plus, the brie provides a classy, European touch.

3. Robert Hall Winery 2017 Chardonnay with Rustic Pear Tart

There’s nothing stuffy about this creamy Chardonnay. Featuring apple and peach aromas with a suggestion of vanilla spice, this wine is a bright straw-gold color that beams in the glass. Rich from barrel fermentation and aging, it shows poached pear and butterscotch flavors that will truly warm her heart. Round and medium-bodied with balanced acidity and toasty oak, expect a finish that lingers long after brunch is gone.

Recipe: Flaky, buttery crust and juicy pear make this Rustic Pear Tart absolutely irresistible—especially when paired with a well balanced Chardonnay tinged with spice.

4. Pear Valley 2016 Frizzante with Creme Brûlée

How sweet it is! Rejoice in the perfect dessert wine and share a moment of tenderness with Mom. Beautifully aromatic with orange blossom, lilac, mandarin syrup, and jasmine notes, this very pretty slender bottle is truly a spectacular gift for Mother’s Day (and unlike a bouquet of flowers, it tastes just as good as it smells). Sweet but not cloying, the effervescence dances on the tongue. Flavors of white peach, honey, candied lemon peel, and tangerine round out the cheerful profile.

Recipe: If you’ve both got a sweet tooth (hey, it’s genetic), just go ahead and take things into decadent territory. This Creme Brûlée isn’t the easiest dish to make, but we promise it will be the star of the meal, leaving Mom glowing with pride.

5. Rotta 2017 Sauvignon Blanc with Key Lime Pie

Like a clear spring day, Rotta’s Sauvignon Blanc wine was made for dancing through the sprinklers (which will no doubt get you two reminiscing over old times). On the nose, she’ll delight in citrus, lime and star fruit laced with hints of the tropics. The flavor of mango, melon, key lime and fresh grass may even inspire plans for a breezy carefree family vacation. Well, here’s to hoping!

Recipe: Tangy Key Lime Pie is just the treat to brighten Mom’s afternoon. Who says she can’t have dessert for brunch? Or any day of the week? Today, (and always) her rules are law.

The wildflowers are popping, the baby sheep are grazing, and the wine scene is in full bloom, to be sure. Don’t miss your chance to take advantage of the idyllic weather and general excitement of this breezy beautiful time in Paso Robles (and keep an eye out for the new buds, the grapes have begun their magical journey for the next vintage). 5 Reasons to Honeymoon in Paso Robles

The wedding is over, the guests have all gone home and you can finally relax into your newfound life with the best human being on the planet. Now, it’s time for the two of you to do what you do best—get lost in each others eyes! Naturally, you’re in a state of bliss, and you’re looking for a honeymoon location that’s equally goo-goo-ga-ga romantic. Good thing Paso Robles Wine Country has plenty of reasons to swoon (the beautiful setting, the amazing wine, and the casual atmosphere chief among them). Experience the love story of a lifetime in Paso Robles and perhaps you’ll never come back (here’s to wishful thinking)! It’s time to squeeze every last drop of joy from the honeymoon before you go back to work, the bills, and real life. Cheers to you, lovebirds!

1. Romantic Tasting Rooms

Fall in love all over again. Tasting rooms don’t have to feel stuffy or antiquated. In Paso Robles, you’ll find lots of small-to-medium sized tasting rooms designed for sipping, lounging, and savoring each moment as it slowly unfolds. There’s no need to rush when you’re at LXV, where you can allow each wine (and its accompanying sensual spice pairing) to dance on your tongue. Talk about heating up the romance! Pelletiere Estate offers up a well-appointed hideaway among the vines perfect for an afternoon away, and the Écluse tasting room offers up a super intimate behind-the-scenes experience (often led by the onsite husband and wife team. Ah, how cute).

2. Cozy Stays

Jump on board the cuddle bus! OK, we know you might be doing a little more than cuddling, although there’s nothing quite like waking up next to your boyfriend/girlfriend, now that you’re husband/wife! Revel in this newfound realization at a cozy Paso Robles stay surrounded by vines, blue skies, and the occasional deer. The Inn at Opolo offers more than your average bed and breakfast, with soaking tubs and made to order breakfast that will inspire you to lounge in bed till noon. Peachy Canyon’s guest cottage features a full kitchen, barbecue, and outdoor patio area so you can play house for a weekend or the week. Lekai Ranch is surrounded by vines with spectacular views that you’ll remember forever. Want to see even more romantic abodes? Click here and eat your heart out.

3. Memory-making adventures

Whether you take a hot air balloon ride over scenic vineyards, explore modern epicurean wonders at Paso’s hip Tin City, tour the olive trees at Pasolivo Ranch, or just stroll downtown’s boutique shopping offerings, there’s always more art, shopping, music, food, and outdoor adventure to discover. You chose this guy/gal to be your partner in life and love. It’s time to go adventuring together!

4. Coastal pleasures

A drive from Paso Robles to the Pacific might be the most romantic thing you do all honeymoon. The wind in your hair, the surf invigorating your senses—this is how you envisioned your new life together. Drive the Highway 46 West Wine Trail to Highway 1, stopping at Paso Robles tasting rooms along the way (KROBAR Distillery is a fun stop for newlyweds seeking to add a little burn to their romance). Four Lanterns is conveniently located along your route—and with a sprawling green lawn perfect for picnicking, you’ll be well on your way to happily ever after.

Tip: Let someone else do the driving! Pearl of Paso, UberWine, and The Wine Line can all get you where you need to go (so you never need to take our eyes off each other).

5. Dining for Two

Decadence is served. In Paso Robles Wine Country, the only thing more delicious than what’s on your plate is the lover sitting across from you. Dine to your heart’s content—and feed each other little bites of this or that (it’s your honeymoon after all) at one of Paso Robles’ many downtown restaurants. Looking for a culinary experience above and beyond the ordinary? JUSTIN Winery, home to a swanky inn and restaurant, is what honeymoon dreams are made of. Make a special reservation for two at this tucked away vineyard oasis and take your time nibbling fresh seasonal bites while sipping world class wine. Happy honeymoon, baby! Who knows, maybe you’ll make a plan to return in ten year’s time. Make that fifty.

5 Reasons to Get Hitched in Paso Robles

She’s your everything. He makes your heart dance all a-flutter. You just know that this love was meant to be (forever and ever and ever, till death do you part, amen). The wedding planning, however, can be a lot less blissful. If you’re looking at nuptials slightly larger than a courthouse wed-and-dash, there’s a lot to stress over. Case in point: The invitations (personalized, but late from the printer), the flowers (imported) and—gasp—the bridesmaid dresses, which were supposed to be Robin’s Egg blue, but somehow arrived a neon electric teal. OK. Before you start turning into Bridezilla and quite possibly pissing off your mother in law for life, why not take a deep breath and consider Paso Robles for your big day? There is no place more charming, chill, or convenient to get hitched. You have enough to worry about, really!

1.  It’s convenient

Travel smarter. You have family in Los Angeles, Fresno, Monterey, and San Francisco. No problem! Paso Robles Wine Country is located conveniently between both San Francisco to the north and Los Angeles to the south (a 3.5-4 hour drive each, respectively). Have guests flying in from everywhere? We’re known for a “slower” pace of life here in SLO County (San Luis Obispo County), and the same goes for our charming SLO Regional Airport (SBP), located just south of Paso Robles. Really, your wedding party won’t believe just how relaxed and low stress this beautiful airport is. Big plus: SBP has announced new nonstop flights to and from Seattle/Tacoma and Denver.

Tip: Near the airport, find Edna Valley, home to Sextant Wines. Stop in for a glass of celebratory wine and a gourmet lunch of fine meats and cheeses before making your way to your lodging. You’ll be in “SLO” County, why rush?

For mapping and directions to Sextant click here

2. It’s scenic

There’s a reason the hot trend in weddings has been to find a wedding destination that looks like an enchanted fairytale scene: This kind of aesthetic literally can come with your Paso Robles Winery wedding destination.

Escape to a stunning Italian inspired resort replete with a stone abbey and a Tuscan Piazza. Allegretto Vineyard Resort offers up a magical Tuscan wedding venue. You’ll feel like you are in Italy (without spending a dime in airfare). “Ciao bella” will roll right off the groom’s tongue.

How about your very own Chateau at JUSTIN Winery? There’s no fussy decorations to fret over when you’ve already got a backdrop of gorgeous vines, and a pink sunset. Like a dreamy Monet painting, this wedding venue needs not one more accessory to provide a blissful and unforgettable ambiance.

Paso Robles is literally covered with such fantastical photo opps as this, meaning you can say, “I do” without giving much thought to whether the napkins should have been ivory lace or pale pink linen.

Tip: Kiss your beloved (and start a whole new future together) while strolling through the vines at Allegretto Vineyard Resort and JUSTIN Winery’s Chateau, both home to amazing world-class wine. We’ll toast to that!

For mapping and directions to Allegretto Vineyard Resort click here.

3. So many venues

Throw a wine cork, hit a wedding venue. Many Paso Robles wineries double as event spaces and killer wedding venues (which is understandable, when you consider the fact that we have generally sunny skies year round). Each location is a tad different, so every couple can do their thing. At Cass Winery, you can get hitched under an ancient oak tree surrounded by estate vineyards, then dance the night away under twinkle lights located just outside the tasting room. Whether you seek an intimate indoor setting—like an authentic barn or barrel room—or you want to stroll through the Zinfandel vines in your matching red gown, take our pick in Paso! You do you.

4. Lodging they’ll love

A modern hotel suite for the father of the bride and a multi-room vacation rental with a patio area for your bridesmaids? Done and done. You might even want a beachfront cottage for the groomsmen (who will no doubt try to catch a little surf before they need to wriggle into those starched matching suits). Whether you need to house your entire extended family (and his) or just a few friends, Paso Robles Wine Country is home to all kinds of unique stays that will ensure your guests are comfortable, happy and ready to throw rice all over you and your chosen mate.

Tip: Large groups will love the room and flexibility of staying at  a unique Paso Robles vacation rental. Looking for something elegant for the bridal party? Allegretto Vineyard Resort offers up luxurious amenities including estate wine, spa services, and a pool.

For mapping and directions to Allegretto Vineyard Resort click here.

5. The wine!

Yes, I am captain obvious. Weddings and fine wine go together like—well—the money dance and the electric slide. When you tie the knot in Paso Robles, you’ll have hundreds of award winning wines at your engaged fingertips. Robust, fruity, light, sparkling—whatever your heart (or mother in law) desires—we have it all. When you get married at a winery or tasting room, it just makes sense to sip the fruit of their labor! Of course, you could bring some beer too, just for Uncle Larry’s sake.

Tip: When you get married at gorgeous Rava Wines you can sip on amazing, small lot sparkling and still wines crafted to dazzle and delight on your most momentous of days. Throw in views of their pond and surrounding vineyards and you’ll think that you have died and gone to heaven.

5 Paso Robles Wine Spring Flings You Won’t Want to Miss

Tear up the to do list and grab your favorite friends—it’s time for a sunny trip to Paso Robles Wine Country! You’ve all been talking about getting away. Now, put your money where your mouth is before the season is gone. Springtime is the right time for incredible culinary events, unique winemaker dinners and once-in-a-lifetime tasting experiences (with a live band, great barbecue, awesome ambiance, or all of the above). Whether you seek a swanky multi-course meal by the sea or just a night under the stars two-stepping to a great live band, Paso Robles Wine Country is here to put that spring back in your step. That garage needing reorganization can wait.

1.  Dance Like No One’s Watching at Tooth and Nail

Will you do us this honor? Sometimes a chill concert is just what the doctor ordered. De-stress and rejoice in that laid-back Paso Robles vibe at Tooth and Nail Winery, which hosts free concerts each Friday night from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and each Sunday night from 1-4 p.m. Country artist Michael D. Keeney will take the stage on Friday, April 12, featuring a dance instructor to make sure you get your moves just right. After you take advantage of a free lesson, grab a glass of wine and an unconventional food pairing and hang out with your friends at “the castle.” As you move into the tasting room, you’ll find a seat for everyone in your gang (and you’ll soon meet your own personal tasting steward). Danced your cares away? Cozy up by the roaring fire or relax under an expansive pergola overlooking the vineyards. Ah, we could get used to this.

For mapping and directions to Tooth and Nail click here

2. Cheers to Wine, Tacos and Tequila with Bodega de Edgar

Calling all SoCal locals! Bodega de Edgar knows how to have a (very, very) good time. Why stop at wine when you can also have tequila and tacos too? Meet winemaker Edgar Torres this Friday, April 12 at Vino at Trios in Alhambra, California and celebrate on the patio from 5 to 7 p.m. By “celebrate,” we mean: eat, drink, and generally have yourself a flat-out ball. The tequila and taco bar will be overflowing with delicious fixings (mmm guac) and you’ll be privy to a complimentary appetizer, wine flight and margarita. Some say less is more. In this case, we say more is most certainly more! Pass the hot sauce. We’re looking to overdo it.

For mapping and directions to Bodega de Edgar click here

3. Traverse the Pacific Coast Wine Trail with Harmony Cellars

Salty sea air does a body good. Travel the Pacific Coast Wine Trail on Cinco de Mayo, Sunday, May 5 and discover more than just seashells by the sea shore. Highway 1 is home to some of the most enviable coastline in the world and—at least we think—some of the best wines just west of Paso Robles. From Coastal Burgundian varieties grown on the coast to robust Bordeaux and Rhone varieties grown in nearby Paso Robles, the wines of the Pacific Coast Wine Trail are perfect for your next spring adventure. At Harmony Cellars, surf meets wine (and one epic sunset). On Cinco de Mayo, enjoy a unique “fiesta bite” paired with a special wine at each of the six wineries on the trail. With grub prepared by Boni’s Tacos, you’ll want for nothing. Yes, the pairing is included with purchase of your tasting, and it goes without saying: no reservations required. Just come as you are, flip flops and all!

For mapping and directions to Harmony Cellars click here

4. Soak up the Sun with Villa San Juliette

Grab your good shades and head for the wide, open blue. This Cinco de Mayo, Sunday, May 5, join Villa San Juliette Vineyard and Winery for the kind of dining experience California dreams are made of. From 6-9 p.m., guests will nosh at the stunning Oceanpoint Ranch in Cambria, where special guest and winemaker Dan Smith will share a plethora of award winning wines paired with a unique Cinco de Mayo themed tasting menu. The four-course meal (prepared by Executive Chef Thomas Drahos of Tin Canteen) will be nothing short of thrilling, featuring fresh seafood and a hefty portion of zest. Yes, this is the perfect occasion to wear that fancy white linen suit! Just be careful.

5. Get in the Wine Fest Spirit

There’s no bigger Paso Robles Wine event than Paso Wine Fest (the name says it all). This year’s four day celebration of small town charm and world class wine promises to be larger than life! Will you be there to witness the spectacle? Held May 16-19, expect to sample hundreds of delicious, award winning offerings along with uniquely curated events. On Friday, May 17, select wineries will feature their Library, Reserve, White/Rosé, and Futures complemented by fresh and local gourmet bites at the RESERVE Event. Start your morning on Saturday, May 18 with a fun and educational Winemaker Seminar. Following the seminar, more than 70 wineries come together in the Paso Robles Downtown City Park to showcase their wines during the Grand Tasting. This year, the fest kicks off the weekend with an all-inclusive family style bottle share dinner that will allow for lots of conversation and general goodwill among table mates. Join three of Paso’s best producers for The Hatch’s three-course meal and some killer Paso wine (advance purchase only. Seating extremely limited). Featured winemakers include Janis Pelletiere of Pelletiere Vineyard & Winery, known for showcasing elegant Italian varietals. Here, we’re all family, and you’re the guest of honor.

5 Stunning Spring Picnic Spots in Paso Wine Country

Grab your picnic basket and unfurl that old blanket. It’s that magical time of year when being outside feels like a dream. Neon green hills and cloudless blue skies provide the backdrop for a modern picnicker’s fantasy (especially when there’s plenty of Paso wine in that basket). Go on. Frolic in the wildflowers. Dance to the live band. Buy the fancy double cream brie from that artisanal cheese shop or (as you can do these days) order food to be delivered directly to you, while exploring the vineyard! Yes, it’s picnic weather in Paso Robles Wine Country and the sky’s the limit.

1. Dover Canyon Winery

Bring your own basket
Don’t let the bees hog all the nectar. Wildflowers are known to bloom along the vineyard-covered hills at Dover Canyon Winery, located on Vineyard Drive in the Willow Creek appellation. This past wet winter has brought a rainbow of colors to Paso’s verdant hills—and now is the best time to explore these bodacious blooms. Dan Panico, owner and winemaker of Dover Canyon, has long believed that the West strip of calcareous soil is optimum for growing Zinfandel and Rhône varieties. We can’t argue! Stop in for tasting and stay for a picnic. Easy, breezy, beautiful.

2. ONX

Nosh here
Allow the picnic pros to craft a delicious bite for you. ONX Winery, located in Paso Robles’ Tin City, has your munchies covered. Gourmet cheeses, olives, almonds, and fancy chocolate are all available during your tasting of these unique, rule-breaking blends, which range from light to bright to bold. Seeking the full vineyard experience? Book a vineyard tour and experience a breathtaking hike through the winery’s Templeton Gap vineyard, home to 18 varietals. Yes, you can order lunch among the vines (local fare is available, plus wine by the glass). This is picnicking in the modern world!

Hang with the Barr Estate Wines family, who are often on-hand at this charming boutique winery and tasting room located on Union Road on the East side of Paso Robles in the Geneseo District. Here, warm spring days and cool nights are ideal for grape growing (and enjoying lunch under a stately oak tree). Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Primitivo, Tannat and Albarino are grown on the family’s 57 acre vineyard so that you can sip, bask, and savor. Keep an eye out for deer (and don’t let the birds grab your charcuterie).

4. Parrish Family Vineyard

Nosh here
Nosh on! Parrish Family Vineyard takes its pairings very seriously. In fact, a new food menu will be released at the scenic tasting room on April 5, including such mouthwatering morsels as herb goat cheese and red pepper pesto with house made sourdough crostini and wild mushroom and olive tapenade with house focaccia. Plus, there’s a new spring tasting flight to devour, too! Take a vineyard tour, sprawl out on the sun-dappled porch, or just kick back with your dog. Whether you choose the new spring 2016 Estate Sauvignon Blanc or a reserve bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, you can rest assured there’s a corresponding snack on its way. Yes, this is our idea of heaven, too.

Taste the art at Penman Springs Winery, located on (you guessed it) Penman Springs Road in Paso Robles. This family owned artisan winery is nestled among rolling hills where Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Muscat Blanc, Merlot, Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot thrive. Stop by on April 6 and enjoy a picnic surrounded by scenic vines and wildflowers—plus, know that a portion of all wine sales will go toward helping out the local Woods Humane Society. You’ll feel just as warm and fuzzy as the Easter Bunny!

6 Spring Break Getaways in Paso Wine Country

It’s a shame that once we graduate from school, the concept of “Spring Break” tends to fly out the window. Why should those darn kids have all the fun? I mean, when was the last time the Easter Bunny passed by your neighborhood and gave you a second glance? Adults need to let loose too. With romantic vineyard stays, unique vacation rentals, and sophisticated RV resorts galore, Paso Robles Wine Country should be your Spring Break 2019 destination, to be sure. Raise a glass to adventure (and that ankle tattoo you got in Cancun back in 1995). These are your vacation days we’re talking about here. Use them wisely!

1.  Book a Cozy Bed and Breakfast

Staycation with the best of them. Each room at Eden House at Carriage Vineyards is named after a well-known Paso Robles wine varietal, and each suite features its own unique flavor, too. The Grenache Suite includes two rooms and can sleep four, great for a family outing or fun wedding weekend with the girls. Looking for a romantic stay for you and your sweetie? The Viognier Suite is perfect for rekindling romance one sip at a time. Featuring a king sized bed, oversized shower (with deep soaking tub), and a pair of picture-perfect window seats overlooking a view of the orchard, vineyard, and garden, you’ll feel like you’re on a second honeymoon. Of course, all guests are privy to fabulous Paso Robles Wines at all times (the bed and breakfast is located on a working vineyard and ranch). With all these pluses, why would you ever need to step foot off the property? You don’t have to.

2. Park it for RV Pleasure

Rev up and roll out. You bought that RV years ago so you could go on exciting adventures, right? Well, Spring Break 2019 is your time to make a break for it and really make good on that promise. Fire up your home-away-from home and park at a truly luxurious destination in scenic Paso Robles Wine Country. Cava Robles RV Resort, Vines RV Resort, and Wine Country RV Resort are located conveniently near all the best wine tasting stops—plus, each stay has its own unique allure. Pet-friendly Cava Robles RV Resort features a swanky pool, fab bistro, and even a wellness center (you’ve got to see it to believe it).

3 . Find Calm at the Cottage

Set up that email vacation reply and make a beeline for the door. Unplug, unwind and unburden yourself from daily to-dos at Peachy Canyon Guest Inn. On the hill above Peachy Canyon Winery, nestled among nearly 50 acres of vines, you’ll find Canyon Inn at Mustang Springs. The house features two bedrooms, two and a half baths, living room, family room and insane panoramic views you’d be tempted to post on social media (if you hadn’t so completely and thoroughly unplugged). A full kitchen and dining area makes for a relaxing and rejuvenating visit, whether you’re looking to reconnect with family or inspire your business team to reach for the stars. This place sleeps six and features a barbecue patio area, so be sure to bring your favorite bottle of barbecue sauce!

4. Get Back to Old World Luxury

Who says old school can’t keep up with the modern world? The Inn at Opolo, located just a stone’s throw from the popular winery and tasting room, straddles both modern convenience and Old World charm with ease. Treat yourself to the ultimate Paso Robles wine country experience—and get your nosh on—at The Inn at Opolo Vineyards, where made-to-order breakfasts are the norm. Guests enjoy luxurious, spacious rooms and all of the sensory pleasures of Paso Robles all in one destination. These rooms are far from basic, boasting crackling  fireplaces, soaking tubs, showers and  complimentary wine and appetizers each afternoon. That’s enough to get even the most stressed out among us to hit “book.”

5. Book a Stay as Unique as You Are

Because you’re not like anyone else. We’ve done away with the concept of one-size-fits-all vacations, so why should your Paso Robles Wine Country stay be any different? Wield full control (and maximum flexibility) when you book this spring at PasoRoblesVacationRentals.com. Browse dozens of privately owned vacation rental listings based on your specific preferences. Whether you seek a chill one bedroom abode with a pool, or a five-bedroom castle complete with Tuscan architecture, you choose what works for your stay. With intimate bungalows teetering atop majestic hillsides to wrap-around-porches where you can sit and take in a 360-degree vineyard view, we promise you’ll feel right at home wherever you roam.

6. Dream Big at Lekai Ranch

Wake up to your own storybook dream at Lekai Ranch. Luxuriate in a tranquil, quiet and very private suite, where you can sip coffee on the porch and soak in the vineyard view. What view, you ask? We’re talking about an expansive vista encompassing Big Sur, the back of historic Hearst castle and endless oak studded hills. At night, the sky twinkles with millions of stars. Relax into a comfortable Cal-King Tempurpedic bed (there’s three twin beds, too, if you feel like bringing the kids), or travel just 15 minutes to downtown Paso Robles dining. Consider this your own enchanted cottage, where deer can be seen grazing on the hillsides, and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot a wild turkey or even a feral pig, no doubt an escapee from Hearst’s living menagerie. Yes, your happily ever after starts here.

Super Bloom in a glass: 5 Fresh Paso Robles Wine Releases

A rainy winter season doesn’t just mean healthy, happy vines come spring. If you’ve spent any time on the Central Coast in the past few weeks, you know that the poppies and mustard are (very) happy too. California’s 2019 Super Bloom is a sight to behold—some fields of wildflowers are so vibrant and vast that they are even visible from space. Thousands of brightly colored blooms have exploded into full splendor, turning green hillsides into a technicolor dream. While you can see this rainbow with your own eyes by visiting popular Super Bloom sightseeing stops like the nearby Carrizo Plain National Monument, we encourage you to also open up your senses to these bright, floral delights bursting from local barrels, too. Think of the following fresh spring Paso Robles Wine recommendations as a Super Bloom for your glass!

1. Écluse Wines 2015 Prelude White Rhone Blend

This complex Rhone style blend is truly a natural wonder. The beautiful golden straw color and aromas of stone fruit and orange blossom are sure to lure you in (not unlike a field of poppies) and continue on the palate along with notes of zesty citrus. Enjoy it perfectly chilled on a warm spring day or pair with a goat cheese and pear salad. Note: Check out Écluse Winery’s new tasting room hours, Thursday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2. Dubost Vineyard and Winery’s 2017 Rosé

Dubost’s 100% Grenache is as eye-catching as it is sumptuous. With a striking salmon color, raspberry and strawberry on the nose, and a crisp refreshing acidity going down, this chilled blush is ready for picnics laden with jam, nuts, and prosciutto. Flower crown not included.

3. Eberle Winery 2018 Côtes-du-Rôbles Rosé

Eberle’s 2018 Côtes-du-Rôbles Rosé is enticing, yet shows restraint. A blend of 52% Grenache, 44% Syrah, and 4% Viognier, the vibrant pink color leads your nose and mouth to the glass where aromas and flavors of tropical fruits, strawberries and a hint of pink grapefruit leap out of the glass. Watch out. You may need to wear shades for this one.

4. Hoyt Family Vineyards 2017 Pinot Noir Rosé

“Sophisticated and elegant” best describes Hoyt’s estate Grown Pinot Noir Rose, a plush ruby color reminiscent of Valentine’s Day bouquets. This flirtatious wine is indeed turning heads and making a splash, claiming 99 points, double gold and best of class from the California State Fair! Notes of strawberry and citrus lend an crowd-pleasing allure. Spring fling, anyone?

5. Hearst Ranch Winery 2017 White Wine “Three Sisters Cuvee”

Could there be a Paso Robles white wine with a fresher feeling? A stunning composition of sunny aromas and flavors suggest not. Aromatics of fresh-cut grass and clean minerality come together with fantastic acidity in this fab Hearst Ranch Cuvee. Hints of medium toasted oak and flavors of lychee, gooseberry and apricot are a delight on the palate. Better than dancing through the sprinklers on your front lawn? Almost!
