Few wineries in Paso Robles carry the kind of weight that Hope Family Wines does. Named 2022 American Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast — and home to the Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon, ranked the 7th Best Wine in the World by the same publication — this is one of the Central Coast’s most decorated family-owned estates.
Austin Hope: Paso Robles’ Benchmark Cabernet
The Austin Hope label is built around one conviction — that the Templeton Gap and Willow Creek Districts of Paso Robles produce Cabernet Sauvignon capable of competing with the best in the world. The flagship Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon has become the benchmark that the region is measured against: a structured, deeply layered wine drawing on estate fruit from some of the appellation’s most prized hillside vineyards. It’s not simply a popular wine — it’s a statement about what Paso Robles can be. The brand also produces a Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon for guests seeking an even more concentrated expression of the estate, and several Rhône-inspired blends that showcase the diversity of the Hope vineyard portfolio.
Treana and the Full Portfolio
Hope Family Wines is also home to Treana — a Bordeaux and Rhône-focused label with a devoted following of its own — as well as Quest, Troublemaker, and Liberty School. Together, the five brands span price points and styles, but all pour at the Tasting Cellar on Live Oak Road. This gives visitors an unusually broad window into a single family’s winemaking vision, and into the range of varietals the Paso Robles AVA can support — from bold Cabernet Franc and Malbec to expressive Grenache, Mourvèdre, Verdelho, and Chenin Blanc.
The Tasting Cellar Experience
The Austin Hope & Treana Tasting Cellar sits at 1585 Live Oak Road in the Templeton Gap District, a short drive from downtown Paso Robles. The space is designed for lingering — eclectic decor, cozy lounge-style seating, and a relaxed energy that matches a casual approach to genuinely world-class wine. Tastings run approximately 90 minutes and are paced to the group. Guests with outdoor reservations are welcome to bring food; the cellar also offers cheese boxes to complement the pour. The $25 tasting fee is waived with a $100 wine purchase.
Seasonal Experiences
Hope Family Wines builds programming around the seasons. Winter brings Dark & Decadent — a guided pairing of bold reds with artisan dark chocolates, running January through February. Come fall harvest, the cellar offers hands-on experiences that put guests in contact with estate fruit, with guides walking through how to assess grape ripeness during the critical weeks before pick. These limited seasonal experiences book quickly and are worth planning around.
Two Locations
Visitors to downtown Paso Robles can also find Hope Family Wines at the Hope on Park tasting room, located in the heart of the city. The Live Oak Road Tasting Cellar is the flagship estate experience, but both locations pour the same acclaimed portfolio.
