5 Tips to Planning a Spring fling in Paso Robles Wine Country

Sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? Well, spring officially springs into action Saturday, March 20! (And word has it that Paso might be opening next week for 25% capacity indoor tasting and dining!) Time to plan your trip to scenic Paso Robles Wine Country, where the wildflowers are blooming and the perfect beach day beckons just beyond rolling green hills. If you’ve been dreaming of visiting Paso Robles this year, now is the perfect time to dive in and explore our hundreds of unique varietals. Go on, get out there: Stay, play, and savor world class wines when you book a visit to one of our hundreds of dreamy outdoor tasting rooms. Ready to soak up the sun? Here’s our best tips to squeezing every last drop out of your next spring fling.

Picnic? Our pleasure

Spread out that picnic blanket and get cozy among the wildflowers: With miles of undulating hillsides awash in every shade of emerald green, Paso Robles Wine Country may be the best place to picnic this spring (plus—ahem—there’s amazing wine to be paired with all those fine cheeses and meats). Grab an easy-to-sip screw top bottle of something bright and light, then hit the trail. We suggest Eberle’s 2019 Viognier, Mill Road, a rush of orange blossom and honeysuckle in your glass. Now you’re free to prance among the posies, twirl among the tulips…really, you do you!

Beach day

Head for the coast: Did you know that Paso Robles Wine Country is located only a few miles drive from gorgeous Highway 1 and the Pacific coast? Take scenic route Highway 46 West through some of Paso’s most gorgeous terrain and you’ll get into that optimistic springtime state of mind in a jiff. We promise: there will be no traffic, but keep your eyes peeled for perhaps a few baby deer! Along the way, be sure to stop at a host of wineries offering everything from small plates on the patio to full-on vineyard tours. Reserve a tasting and tour at Tooth and Nail Winery’s iconic castle tasting room/eatery and embark on a guided romp through the majestic grounds. Cap off your adventure with a coastal sunset and a stroll along the sand. They say chivalry is dead, but (at least in Paso Robles) romance is alive and kicking.

Sit down and stay a while

Around here, time moves slower: Enjoy the languid pace of life and grab an outdoor lounge chair at Parrish Family Vineyard, where you’re encouraged to linger as long as you like. Surrounded by gorgeous green vines (and views), this family owned and operated tasting room is all about casual relaxation paired with sophisticated wines and bites. Claim your spot in the sun and sample the winery’s beloved cabernet sauvignon (the best part? They’ll bring you fabulous food, too). That’s right: nibble on fig and green olive tapenade, a seasonal flatbread creation of even a BLTA with roasted garlic aioli, almond-praline bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato all on sliced house made cabernet sourdough (THE BEST!). Yep, you have officially arrived. Welcome to the good life, my friend.

Grab a gazebo

Greet the fresh air, buzzing bees and happy birds: When you kick back on Peachy Canyon’s picturesque lawn, you’re basically stepping into an old timey postcard of yore. We jest, but seriously—imagine relaxing under a gazebo outside the winery’s historic “Old Bethel School House” built in 1886. Even the epic zinfandel in your hand seems to recall a simpler era: After all, Zinfandel is Paso’s heritage grape, and no one makes it quite like Peachy Canyon. Yes, it’s pretty easy to imagine you’ve slipped back to a time when small joys were celebrated after a long day tilling the fields. Luckily for you, the butter’s been churned and all the chores have been done. Nothing left to be done but sip.

Peace in harmony

Peace! It’s not just for the hippies: a sense of wellbeing can, indeed, be yours when you visit the tiny hamlet of Harmony, CA located along the coast between Highway 1 and Paso Robles. With a tiny chapel and post office, this roadside stop is made even more charming by incredible local wine. Harmony Cellars overlooks the whole storybook scene and you can take in the view with an outdoor tasting that’s anything but diminutive. A tip from us? Don’t blink, or you could miss the turn-off (the town famously boasts just 18 residents). Yes, that’s the total population, even if you count the cows.
