5 Fresh Ways to Enjoy Paso Wine Country This Spring
PasoWine
Paso Robles wineries are nothing if not bold and inventive. Around here, we tend to march to the beat of our own drum! That goes for making wine, growing wine, and—of course—enjoying the fruit of our labors. With a warm, temperate growing season (read: oodles of sunshine), locals tend to use the the great outdoors as their personal playground. You should too! With miles of dreamy vineyards, fragrant wildflowers and blue skies, there’s never been a better time to make the trip to Paso Robles Wine Country. Whether you sit down to a picture-perfect winemaker dinner set amongst the oaks or take a detour to the ocean, you’ll find endless fresh ways to savor Paso wine this spring!
1. Become the beekeeper
Major buzz: Experience the ancient magic of beekeeping at Cass Winery this Spring! Yes, you heard us right. From hive science to honey extractions, your group will learn the latest buzz about these important pollinators. Allow the friendly folks at Cass to take you for a spin around the winery’s onsite bee hives, where you’ll suit up in your very own beekeeper’s suit! Learn about hive installations, understand the connections between plants and herbs and sample your own taste of honey, artisanal cheese and award winning wine. If there’s a more “springtime” event happening in Paso Robles Wine Country, we’d be shocked to hear!
Fresh hangouts abound: Sure, we love cowboys and local traditions, but we’re also home to cutting-edge tasting rooms. One such destination not to be missed? Bodega de Edgar, home of bold Spanish varietals and a clean, modern vibe. One of the best thing about Paso Robles is the fact that winemakers come from all backgrounds and walks of life. Bodega de Edgar Winemaker/Founder Edgar Torres started off his journey as a waiter at a local restaurant. From working his way up from “cellar rat” at local wineries to starting his own label in 2007, this is an incredible journey worth celebrating first hand! Check out the winery’s modern lounge tucked away in an unassuming industrial space. Now, to toast to a true Robles dream come true!
Enter the cave: OK, so you won’t be wearing a flashlight on your head, but we think Eberle’s iconic wine caves are pretty darn exciting nonetheless! Get in on the adventure when you book a vineyard deck tour and tasting, cellar club reserve tour and tasting or VIP tour and tasting in the grotto. That’s right—most Eberle wine experiences have an underground wine cave tour built right into the program, so you’ll never have to worry about missing out on this time-honored expedition. When paired alongside some of the most iconic red wines to Paso on the map, this is the perfect recipe for flavor and fun.
Easy breezy and tasty: A drive along Highway 46 West heading towards the coast is always a relaxing experience—especially when you stop at your favorite wineries along the way! Be sure to hit Harmony Cellars, a totally unique stop with loads of coastal appeal. Perched atop a hill overlooking the hamlet of Harmony (population 18, if you count the cows), you’ll be transported to a whimsical storybook world where glass blowers and cobblestone streets enchant the imagination! Just a stone’s throw from Highway 1 and the glittering Pacific beyond, you might just be inspired to travel onward for an impromptu beach day. Looks like this is just the beginning of your coastal journey!
Have we gone utterly nuts? Not quite! Paso Robles winemakers are so darn creative and passionate, it’s not unusual to find folks who dabble in wine, beer and craft spirits, too. Put down the wine glass for the afternoon (we promise, it will still be there) and allow the mixologists at KROBAR Craft Distillery North to shake up an expert drink made from one-of-a-kind hooch. Located behind Grey Wolf Winery in Paso Robles on Highway 46 West, this Instagram-worthy tasting room is home to an intimate indoor/outdoor space perfect for happy hour with the crew.
