Tucked into a storefront on Pine Street in downtown Paso Robles, LXV Wine & Pairings turns the traditional tasting flight into something closer to a spice market crossing paths with a Bordeaux cellar.
Founded by Neeta and Kunal Mittal, the winery takes its name from the 65th of the 64 traditional sutras of Indian art and hospitality — the moment of connection between host and guest — and builds its entire seated, guided experience around that idea, pairing each pour with a hand-selected global spice rather than the usual cheese board.
The Experience
Every tasting at LXV is hosted, seated, and unhurried, whether guests choose a table inside the Pine Street tasting room or a seat on the patio. The signature Classic Wine & Spice Tasting walks guests through small-lot LXV wines alongside four proprietary spice blends served on local sheep’s milk cheese, each one built to shift what a taster notices in the glass — lifting aromatics, softening tannin, or drawing out a flavor the wine alone never revealed.
For guests who want to go deeper, A Study in Cabernet Franc pours four expressions of the grape through LXV’s own CabFrancMasters program, while The MESO Collection focuses on single-vineyard, pre-poured wines from the Willow Creek District. Those wanting the full estate story can book A Vineyard & Table Experience at Armaa.N Estate, a seasonal, by-appointment walk through the vineyard followed by a seated tasting paired with a cheese and charcuterie board curated by Neeta herself.
What Makes It Special
The wines poured at LXV come from Armaa.N Vineyard, the Mittals’ 13.5-acre estate in the Willow Creek District, farmed without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers, with organic certification currently in transition and already recognized by the USDA and CDFA.
That estate produces three distinct labels under the House of Mittal:
- LXV itself, built around Bordeaux-inspired varietals like Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Semillon
- MESO by LXV, single-vineyard wines drawn from Willow Creek sites including Gateway, Armaa.N, and G2 North
- Maison Mittal, collector-focused Bordeaux-style blends sourced from both Saint-Émilion and Paso Robles
USA Today named LXV among the top tasting experiences in America, Wine Enthusiast has called out both its tasting room and its 2023 Cabernet Franc from MESO, and Decanter named that same wine Paso Robles’s Red Wine of the Vintage. Forbes, Eater, and SOMM Journal have all featured the Mittals’ wines as well, with scores reaching 99 points from Jeb Dunnuck and 98 from SOMM Journal for the inaugural Maison Mittal vintage.
For anyone who can’t make it downtown, the winery also ships The Perfumed Garden, an at-home tasting kit pairing LXV wines with spice blends and on-demand videos led by Neeta.
