Happy St. Patrick’s Day Paso Robles!  Like you, I will be eating some fine Irish plate tonight with a bit of drink!  However…green beer really isn’t my fancy being in the best wine country of all the world!  So here are some amazing recipes for St. Patrick’s day dinner from all my favorite recipe sites, paired with what we think are perfectly matching wines from our beloved Paso Robles, CA.  Try them out and comment below on what you thought or send us a message with your favorite recipe/wine combos and we will blog them in our upcoming “local fare” post.

Paso Robles Wine Pairing:

J.Lohr Falcon’s Perch Pinot Noir

WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS: The 2012 Falcon’s Perch Pinot Noir offers complex varietal aromas of cherry preserves, violets and dried herbs lifted by vanilla spice. Brushy red fruit on the palate finishes with talc and a touch of rhubarb pie. The fresh acidity invites a wide range of food pairings.

or

StillWaters Vineyard 2012 Chardonnay

WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS: This Chardonnay is complex with the right amount of minerality and stone fruit flavors.  It spent 3 months in new French oak to give it a warm tasty vanilla finish and beautiful orange blossom nose.

2. Banger’s & Mash with Zinfandel

WINEMAKER’S NOTES:   Concentrated flavors of tart cherry, dark plum and licorice. Pair with pasta, pizza and BBQ.

2010 Lone Madrone Sheep Camp Zinfandel

WINEMAKER’S NOTES: Sheep Camp is a unique and intense version of old west Paso Robles Zinfandel.  It is strong in character, yet holding great acidity and balance.  Sheep Camp is the historic name of what is now Old Oak Vineyard.

3. Potato Soup paired with Rose’ and Sauvingnon Blanc

2012 Halter Ranch Rose’

Click here for information & Location > http://geo.to/HalterRanch

WINEMAKER’S NOTES: Reminiscent of Rosés from the Southern Rhône, this Grenache-based blend has aromas of wild strawberry and guava. Refreshing on the palate, this wine features tropical fruit flavors and finishes with a crisp minerality. Enjoy alone as an apéritif, or pair with charcuterie, salmon or light pastas.

2012 Halter Ranch Sauvignon Blanc

WINEMAKER’S NOTES: The Halter Ranch Sauvignon Blanc is brimming with aromas of Meyer lemon, and a palate bursting with grapefruit and kiwi. Delicious now as an apéritif or paired with vegetarian dishes, poultry and tangy goat cheeses. Fresh and delightful on release, it will fully blossom over the next 18-24 months.

Have a safe and savory holiday and don’t forget to spread the word about these great recipes and wines!
