5 Reasons to visit Paso Robles Wine Country in Winter
PasoWine
Why visit Paso Robles Wine Country in winter? We could name a thousand and one reasons, but we’ll just stick to our favorite five for now! Paso’s offseason is utterly charming, with far less crowds and more opportunities to savor quiet moments with friends and family. The weather is temperate, with warm sunny days and chilly nights enjoyed around a crackling fire. Of course, we’d be silly not to mention Paso’s downtown, all aglow in holiday lights this time of year (you’ll feel our warm and cozy community spirit just by strolling boutique shops and tasting rooms). Plus, winter brings fabulous holiday sales and festive foodie finds! Need we say more? We didn’t think so.
Less crowds
Relax, there’s no rush: Beat the crowds and head to Paso Robles Wine Country, where lines are shorter, tasting rooms are quieter, and you can get that one-on-one attention you crave. KROBAR Craft Distillery offers up a relaxed yet swanky hangout perfect for winter afternoons spent sipping together. Located just off the Highway 46 West, this unique tasting room offers up an intimate indoor/outdoor space where folks can enjoy small batch house-made Americana spirits as well as weekly featured cocktails. KROBAR’s in-house mixologists are constantly creating new and exciting drinks, especially during the festive holiday season! Better gab a few bottles to go for stocking stuffers…we’ve heard that Santa is sick of milk and cookies.
Meet you by the pool: We don’t know what winter is usually like in your neck of the woods, but around here the days are sunny and sweet! Escape to temperate Paso Robles this holiday season, where the famous Mediterranean climate inspires delicious wine grapes and chill vacations. Allegretto Vineyard Resort doesn’t just boast its own wine label and tasting room, you can also dine at a top notch restaurant, relax at the onsite spa or (get ready for it) lounge in a bikini by a spacious swimming pool. That’s right—take a dip in Paso while the temps dip elsewhere! As the day melts into night, it’s nice to know you can slip into a multi-jet hot tub surrounded by vineyards, too. We could get used to this kind of holiday tradition…
The heart of it all: Theres’s something so magical about Paso Robles’ quaint downtown in winter. Experience the majestic oak trees, romantic street lamps and stately town clock all aglow in festive holiday lights. Looking for incredible food, fine wine and boutique shopping all in one easy trip? Simply stroll this iconic town square and you’ll be sure to stumble upon more than a few exciting finds. Plus, there’s plenty to explore on the edge of downtown, too, where parking is breezy and there’s never a wait to taste. One such awesome locale to check out? Iron Oaks Winery, which offers up a five star wine and cheese tasting that still smacks of Paso’s down-home authenticity. Pick up fine beef for your festive gatherings that comes from the family ranch and grab bottles of sparkling cowboy buckle champagne to add some yeehaw to the year’s end. It won’t last long.
More wine for your buck: Want wine on a dime? This time of year, Paso Robles Wineries roll out some stellar holiday deals—so be sure to take advantage of them while you’re here! Easily cross off everyone on your list when you pick up a few jingle-worthy offerings from Austin Hope & Treana Tasting Cellar, a favorite of locals and travelers alike. Whether you purchase a “World Class Wine and Chocolate Pairing” for grandma, a six-bottle “Cabernet for All of your Holidays” box to parse out to friends and family, or the popular “Hope for the Holidays” box, featuring the winery’s iconic 2019 Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon, 2020 Austin Hope chardonnay and a bottle of estate-grown olive oil, you can rest assured that you’ll spread a little joy without spending the extra dough.
No need to toil in the kitchen: In Paso Robles Wine Country, we live to serve you! Belly up to a table at Austin Hope & Treana Tasting Cellar, where the fall tasting menu offers up a holiday feast for the ages. Overflowing cheese and charcuterie boards, savory house-made soup and sourdough, Romanesco and Asian pear flatbread, roast beef and barley salad and butternut squash bread pudding can all be yours when you fall in love with Paso Robles this winter. If all of these wintery items have your mouth watering at the moment, be sure to remember that meals in Paso are always served alongside the most excellent wines. No need to guess which bottle will work with each dish—we’ve got pairing down to a science!
BONUS! This weekend enjoy a complimentary glass of Rosé at Seven Oxen located off Hwy 101 in the Tin City area!
It doesn’t get more festive than this!
2019 Rosé – Estate Grown at Seven Oxen Grenache, Mourvèdre and Zin Rosé Fermented in Stainless Steel Aged in Neutral French oak for 6 months by talented French winemaker, sustainable Vineyard Manager, photographer, beekeeper, father, and husband.
The oak gives the wine roundness and creaminess, while the stainless allows to keep bright acidity to create the perfect balance. Notes of strawberry, raspberry , currant and rose petals. It is delicious, we just enjoyed it yesterday.
