Sculpterra winery and sculpture garden have been hard at work making award winning wines and bottling them up in their custom labels featuring their awesome sculptures. However there is a label that is completely different and serves not only as a great glass of wine, but it gives to a great cause.
Héroe is a new label that honors not only the vineyard workers but pays respect to these unsung heroes of the wine industry locally and all over. The Héroe label currently consists of a Viognier, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a Primitivo! All the grapes are hand-picked from the estate vineyard and produced in small lots with a touch of oak.
Sculpterra is owned by the Frankel family and Dr. Warren Frankel co-founded the organization, His Healing Hands in Templeton in the 90’s. His Healing Hands is a medical missionary group bringing health care to the less fortunate and/or those affected by natural disasters around the world. Recent trips include Haiti, India and most recently Ethiopia.
Dr. Frankel decided that the proceeds from Héroe would be donated to the Gold Coast Chapter of The Flying Samaritans, a volunteer organization which conducts free medical clinics in Baja California, Mexico. The parent group The Flying Samaritan International has 10 chapters operating clinics in 10-12 remote areas of Baja California. Made up of doctors, nurses, and caring individuals they offer free medical services to remote villages and people who could otherwise never afford care.
Dedicated to the workers, in Spanish Héroe translates to “Hero”. From harvest, past to present, the Mexican-American workers are the heroes of the estate vineyard and winery in the eyes of Sculpterra. They toil and work in all kinds of weather for long days making sure the harvest is met so that the fruit can bring you the wine that is then artfully made.
