When we moved to Paso Robles from Brentwood, California there honestly was not one interesting shop or restaurant in town. Fast forward 20 years to the present and this special town we call home has become a gem. Strolling around old town you will be remiss if you do not stop in to do some shopping before heading out for wine tasting.
This morning I stopped in at Ambiance boutique, a progressive, slightly bohemian clothing and gift store that opened up a few weeks ago on Park Street and 13th Street. After drooling over a fabulous fur vest, amazing jewelry and a unique skirt, I picked up pretty lingerie for a dear friend’s bridal shower along with a beautifully scented bar of “Friend’s” soap that is smartly packaged. I then visited one of my favorite gift stores in Paso Robles, Firefly Gallery, on 12th Street between Park Street and Pine Street and finally settled on a woven belt for my sister-in-law whom we are visiting in Florence next month. Imagine that, shopping for a Florentine in Paso Robles! Another new retailer is Paso Robles General Store that also is one of my favorite go tos when needing an original gift. Recently I purchased Paso themed t-shirts for my niece’s twin 18 month old boys that have bold graphic tractors on a midnight blue background.
On my walk back to my car I picked up some brown butter sea salt cookies from the Brown Butter Cookie Company located in the iconic Acorn Building on 12th and Park Street. The space is youthfully designed, warm and inviting. I continued onto Park Street and discovered that Thomas Hill Organics Restaurant just opened a new space with a bar that adjoins the charming patio/courtyard and restaurant that previously only had an entrance on the back alleyway.
No doubt Paso Robles has undergone a formidable transformation from the once slightly tattered cow town. It always had the bones to be special, and so it has become. Paso is now the epicenter of cool in this beautiful county.
