Winery Profile:

Hug Cellars specializes in hand crafting small lots of ultra-premium wine. Winemaker Augie Hug approaches winemaking with a measured hand, allowing each vineyard to express its own virtues. Hug Cellars utilizes grapes from premier, maritime vineyard sources from the Central Coast.

Hug Cellars is a small family owned winery established in 1994 by Augie and Raquel Hug. While becoming a reality in 1994, Hug Cellars started conceptually during the mid 1980’s, while Augie was the chef/owner of a small restaurant located in Northern California. Augie found that the union of food and wine came quite naturally to him, and it was during this time that he developed his love of wines.

Hug Cellars works with some of the best vineyards and growers on the Central Coast. James Ontiveros of Rancho Ontiveros, Eric Jensen of Booker Vineyard, Terry Hoage of Terry Hoage Vineyard, Lino Bozzano of Laetitia and Cedar Lane Vineyard, just to name a few. Hug Cellar’s wines are wines that are truly “made in the vineyard”. Handcrafted cultivation by these dedicated growers, and gentle winemaking in the cellar, produce wines that are rich and intense in their aromas, textures and flavors.

There is very little manipulation in the small lot winemaking at Hug Cellars. We utilize whole cluster and indigenous yeasts in our fermentations. This fosters wines that reflect the pure expression of these unique vineyards.
